I found a deal on Ozark Hardwood Pellets for 127.00 a ton fresh off the truck. I really didn't like the more involved cleaning compared to the rocky mountain pellets I burned last year but I am dumping a lot of ash from the first ton of Pro pellets and it isn't killing me. I paid 205.00 a ton for the pro pellets. I am not a big fan of OHP's at 3.85 a bag but at 2.54 per bag?

What would you do?

I like OHP I would buy them .

One thing about the great state of Idaho is we don't pay tax on our pellets.

I read the rest of the thread to this post, and I want to point out a few things... All your purchases are taxed. In Idaho, you don't pay sales tax, maybe the same in Mass, and other states, but the reality is.... Should you pay an add-on tax for primary service products that other "Major Suppliers" are not required to collect??? That's my gripe. If I heat with oil, natural gas, kerosene, coal, you pay taxes based on something other than your purchase as a retail consumer, I buy K-1 kerosene as a solvent not used for fuel over the road, and I pay sales tax, but not highway use tax. Dollar difference, I lose. Fact is there is no consistency in taxation. I work with a federally funded agency that looks at the "extra costs" added to home heating. We get a 10% across the board deduction for overhead, regardless of the type of fuel. For me to get the deductions, I have to submit the receipts and the agency credits me with the excess tax. Idaho is a little smarter, they don't charge for some products. Pellets have one use, well, you can use them for way too much money in your BBQ, but it's heat only. We color diesel for off road and farm use, and even K-1 has a red die to make sure the trucks aren't running with it. Some day we will all grow up and realize, it's not equitable to nail the other guy with a tax to cover our expenses.

Where in the world did you find a deal like that?? I'm in NE oklahoma and that's all I've burned and would love to across something like that!!!

Deal like that was the norm 8 yr's ago, as the demand went up so did the prices.
Pellet's are made from basically a FREE resource, lumbar yards would pay U to get rid of it!, except for the equipment to make them and haul them it's pure profit.................like to see what BTU say's about this one, you sweating bullet's there BTU buddy? lately with these low prices?, maybe wasn't such a great business venture after all?
I'm burning Stove chow as we speak for $163 a ton and feel no diffrence in heat, it's 20 out there and it's 72 in my hopuse, and chow has low to NO DUST!

Hey King, $163 ton?? I'm in se ct, the box stores were $187 last week here. Did they go down this week up by you?? Middle of casino country here, I have 2 of each big stores I can hit around here? Looks like I have to make another phone call.... LOL

I think he used a 10% off coupon but if so that would be $168.30 a ton.

When I bought my stove in 97 a ton of pellets could be had for 99.00 it slowly got to the point they were at 300.00 a ton, 2 years ago the highest price I ever saw was 350.00 a ton at HD. I paid 269.00 - 300.00 for the past 3 years, its a real treat to see pellets under 200.00 again, going toward 150.00

Ohhhhh. Coupon?? Would not mind getting a few myself. Oh well $187 is still pretty good price. Now that my fan came in yesterday and stove is all fired up again, guess I need to get that last couple ton for the rest of this winter.

To those who might think the price I found is a for profit purchase, it is not. The only gain the seller is getting is cutting his shipping cost to drive to get his own pellets and be able to spread the savings at the same time. He sells at cost per ton plus whatever shipping cost is for 22 tons. I think he is going to build a bulk storage system so when he does that I am sure this opportunity will end.

I just wanted to make it clear so anyone who thought someone could make profit at 127 a ton and angry at the profit margin at 200 a ton...which isn't accurate at all. The person who can sell for 127 is also getting pretty cheap shipping also.

I started out with 2 tons of Country Boy (Kentucky Mills) in mid November and now I am down to 1 ton and it seems like this is going to be a long cold winter. I am getting ready to pick up another 1 - 1.5 tons of pellets from HD at $187 a ton which is better than the $270 I paid in November.

I just tried 3 bags of Stove Chow from HD at $3.74 a bag and it burned pretty good. Very little dust (fines) in the bags, low amount of ash, and the heat output was good as well.

I tried 3 bags of Penningtons and found alot of dust in the bags (like while I am pouring it into the hopper, as opposed to being mostly at the bottom of the bag), the heat was good but left a considerable amount of ash.

I am getting ready to try 7 bags of Nations Choice which is
suppose to be ultra low ash also sold at HD.

I already went through 1 ton of Country Boy which was excellent but run about $5.40 a bag, so I am looking for alternatives.

Let me know what you think of nations choice. They don't burn very good for me. Alot of ash and little heat, maybe a bad batch.

BigDaddy you were right about the Nations Choice. It had low amounts of fines but did not burn very hot at all and left a large amount of ash. I went and picked up 1.5 tons of the Stove Chow and it is burning nice and hot, low fines, average ash.

Same here with the Chow. I am liking it and it's price at HD $187 a ton it is a good deal.

Hello

Lowe's in Salem NH just got Maine's choice in for $3.74 per bag and either tonight or tomorrow they will get a truckload for Green Team for $3.74 per bag so the price is staying down and they still have them for now.

As far as their seasonal merchandise goes, They are selling Lawn Tractors with Tire Chains!! See Picture BELOW!!!

Somehow it may not be a big seller right now!!

How did you find out about the Green Team? Every time I call HD or Lowe's and ask what they have, they say they only have freedom fuel. I tell them they have another brand and then they go and ask and come back and say yes that they have Fireside too.

Hello

They had Green Team before at this Lowes so I walked in today and asked. The girl called the area mgr and said more are coming in tonight!

Correct me if i'm wrong but the freedom fuel and the fireside seems to be a HD choice while the greene team and the maines choice are from Lowes. I trided all four and the ones from HD are all soft wood and burn dirty.

Maine Wood Pellets are still $199/ton from the dealer in Jay.
We have gone through around 70 bags so far.
Ash is black and fluffy. Heat output is great. Can run almost a ton through
before the ash pan needs to be emptied.

Oil prices in Western Maine are right around $3.00/gal and inching upward.
Downeast Maine has an average price of $3.18/gal.Sure do love the pellet stove!!
0 Deg out right now and 74 inside

Must have a huge ash pan, 1 ton, wow.

Hey Lessoil,

What does the -2 mean after the P61A in your sig??

with the prices being the lowest i've seen in a while i just ordered 6 tons of stove chow from hyde park home depot for 187/ton and i have an interest free year to pay for them
65 flat fee delivery makes it 10.83/ton

now i have 10 tons of stove chow on hand and i have quite a while to ride out any price hikes. if the prices goes any lower i'll order 10 more tons but then i loose my parking space in the garage.

Hey Lessoil,

What does the -2 mean after the P61A in your sig??

Well the owner's manual has P61A-2 on the front cover.
The model# on the stove is P61-2.
I could not find the manufacture date. Should it be on the same plate as Model#??
We ordered it 5/08 and it came in 8/08
