Pickup truck Cord wise measurement

I was thinking to get some back up wood, seasoned oak, paying for it. A local guy I spoke with this morning, said he sells it by the pickup truckload. Would a full size Ford or Chevy pickup (8cyl) upto the top of the bed be worth $100 or near equal to a half of a cord. He thinks it is, he is also selling double the load for $175. Is this near a full cord?? Fairly close?

He has been operating for 30 years and sells by truck load not by the cord b/c of weights and measures. TIA for replys!

Is the bed a long bed? By unsafely and illegally loading a V8 powered short bed chevy 1-2 feet or so above the bedrails I could get 0.5 cords in it.

Wood is heavy though. So a half cord is up around a ton.

White oak wieghs @ 4000bls 2 tons, so 1/2 a cord is @ 2000 that is a good load in pickup.

Is it an 8 ft. bed? Most p/u trucks are not, but an 8 ft. is considered full size. Most duallys are 8' as are a lot of 3/4 tons but when dealing with light duty 1/2 tons I.E ford 150's Chevy 1500's most of them are short beds. (probably because they are more visually appealing) So the most important part of the equation is what size bed. A long bed piled slightly over the rails in the center will be a bit less than a 1/2 cord if thrown in. If you stack very carefully you can squeeze about 1/2 a cord in. or at least close enough for government work.

A 8 foot bed, well stacked and even with the rails is a bit over a face cord. 4x8x16". Not half a cord.

I don't think any one meant 1/2 a face cord, at least I didn't. The 8'x4'x16" equation is off due to the wheel wells. That said if stacked very carefully(higher than the rails in the center) you can squeeze about a 1/2 cord into a long bed (8').

I just loaded my 1991 Dodge Dakoda with a 8ft bed just thowing it in I got @ 1/3 of a cord. That is not getting any wood near that the window and I only drove it around behind the house.

And isn't the dakota bed a bit narrower? (I can't quite remember)

Any discussion of face cords, ricks, or bananna cords is prohibited. Well, I can't really prohibit anything, but it is a silly way to do math. A cord is a fixed measure of volume.

After writing this, went to stack and pain in the back. Went to Chiro, sidelined me for 2 days. So I guess I will be watchin Hanna from my Window.

Got the pic, back is better. I feel I did get a shy less of a face cord.@4x8 no softwood But it is pretty well seasoned. Length varies from18" to 22". lots of big pieces that I will have to split some more. will be resizing too. Also got a network of peeps through him. He knows everyone.

Pricing is very location dependant. Locally in western MA, I see ads for cordwood running between $180 and $200 a cord, delivered, Albany NY (about 30 miles due west) seems to be running around $300 a cord.

I went and picked up a Chevy K3500 bed full for $50.00 (about 5 miles from my house). The guy helped me load it. It was mixed hardwood (cherry and oak) and very dry. The guy told me it had been cut and split since last fall. When I stacked it up, I got just a little over 1/2 cord.

We just went from using my s-10 to haul wood home to using a 4x6 utility trailer with 3' sides... holds alot more than the s-10! we figured about 1/2 a face in the s-to, but closer to a full face in the trailer.
