That's what also thought, since we all know the BK reigns supreme! ;lol My biggest knock is the latch set up they use. Easily adjustable, sure but seems brittle as can be. I have to replace mine before the burning season changes over to 24/7. Hiram is supposed to be making me a replacement one, I need to ping him. :)

Regency updated their site.

They are now claiming that the stove will burn for 30+ hours.
"The catalytic combustor with heavy duty cast iron damper permits the wood stove to burn slowly, providing a long, consistent burn, delivering 30 hours or more of heat with from a single load of wood."

They also adjusted the load capacity to 90lbs and it can fit a 22" log N/S or E/W.

Nice! Looks like the secondary air tube is right in front under the cat? I'm betting someone here will be tempted soon.

Seriously, though, I wonder what they have it priced at. Sounds like a legit contender to the King. It's also interesting that they went with a 4 cu ft stove since the BK VP stated their new models wouldn't be of the large capacity due to the limited market.

It is clearly a shot at the BK market. If it is priced anywhere near or below the cost of a King, can achieve 30 hour burns, AND it offers traditional steel stove looks, why wouldn't you consider it?

Let me be the first to comment then.
If it turns out to be a superior stove to the King, I have no problems (outside of cost) with swapping one in.

For what the BK stoves and Regency F5100 cost I would expect they are made with soapstone and/or cast iron. At that price point I expect quality, performance and high end materials. PH manages to do all of these things for a decent price especially when they had the intro price deal. The BK and Regency stoves look OK but I expect more than OK at that price..

Id buy/try both, quite honestly!

Really Like Todd's style of trying new stoves all the time...

My belief is they both have very strong attributes and both seem to kick ass!

If and when I ever build a new house it will be designed with wood heat in mind.

Wood boiler, wood furnace, big rock stove, big steel stove, pellet stove, geothermal, Hot chicks in bikinis :)

If I had a place for a freestander Id consider it for sure, if the new Lopi fits in my upstairs fireplace I may consider that one too.

That is one big box. I will be interested in seeing how well it controls that heat through the burn without the thermostatic air control. Still like the looks of the BK Ultra better though myself.

No legs as in so they could have an ash drawer.

But I guess an ash drawer would be doable with legs also.

The 30 has an ash drawer and you can do the ungodly pedestal or you can have legs on it.
 
My T-5 has legs and ash drawer so it can be done.. I agree legs should be an option. Not a bad looking stove with the pedestal in my opinion. What would be nice is if they had the option of cast iron similar to the Alderlea stoves. Makes a big difference in appearance and comfort when sitting near the stove as the sides stay around 225 degrees or so.This time of year I leave the blower off and use the ceiling fan on low and it stays comfortable. When winter rolls in the blower gets used all the time.

For the cold parts of the year I like to use a large stump like that and then fill in with "normal" stuff around it. I like the way that it tempers the burn. I have shoved some pretty darn big stuff in my 3 ft box.

How long do you think it took to get that chunk of oak down to a Backwoodsavage level of dry and seasoned.....lol! That was one big chunk of wood

Agreed. And if the darn things had legs, I would be getting all twitchy right about now. (and uses a 6" flue to boot).
