Gave the Quad a good cleaning... took the rear plates off, vacuumed the fan on right, cleaned exchange tubes on top and ash in bottom tray... But I am getting this ticking sound that is constant... sounds like an engine idling. Happens when the stove turns on and continues when the blowers come on. Once stove is running for awhile, it seems to go away. Any idea what this is? Not the auger. Not the fan blowers below. Sounds like that heat exchange fan behind the back plate on the right side.... Ideas? Do I need to do a deeper cleaning? I have never taken the back off the stove in three years of use. Am I missing something there to clean???

How often? How many "Ticks per minute" is there? Is it a fast tick? Slow tick (like a clock)? Sound like a vibration?

Fast tick. Like a car motor that has a little ping going on. Soft sound, not hard.

Could be your covection blower rattling? I had this problem. It sounded more like a vibration. Only happened when mine was cooling down for a cleaning. Found out what it was right away when I applied pressure to the motor. Just had to tighten the bolts. Could be a number of problems though.

Convection blower would not come on right away, that is the lower one which he claims he eliminated. anyway.

Could be the combustion blower. Is the Castile the one where when you take off the right side baffle plate you can get at the blower fins? Make sure the fins are clean. The back of the blower has a big wheel type thing on it, maybe something plastic is stuck on it and hitting on every rotation? Also could be something inside on the fins hitting every rotation. If you decide to take the comb blower off you might want to have a replacement gasket on hand.

Check what jpt said above, yes it is the right sided 'brick' looking at the stove. I've had motor windings do this, absolutely drove me nuts. If one little winding comes lose, it can tick on the motor frame at the speed of the motor, is the ticking repetitive at the same interval? Although you can't ignore it happening post cleaning, bet something is hitting the comb fan fins.....

Also, switch from HIGH to LOW. If it is the motor, the ticking will slow down as the feed rate/blower speed is changed.

Will inspect the whole wheel and fin area over the weekend. It was completely gone last night and I did change the fan settings. Will report back if I find anything and many thanks to all of you for your helpful posts! (... and why this site is a GREAT one! TY! )
