Long time reader, new poster. Have a new 1200 insert with remote thermostat that works/heats great but makes quite a bit of noise during combustion cycles. Periodically sounds like a gust of wind and sometimes “howls” as the fire burns down. At the recommendation of our installer, I’ve tried different pellets and while some burn a bit quieter, the noise is still consistently present.
The unit replaced an early 2000s era Brinkman and is inserted into a zero clearance fireplace in a pier and beam two story home. Space meets all minimum clearance requirements. Regulation stovepipe installed to top of chimney; no outside air kit installed. Called the installer out to examine and they said it was typical sounds for this pellet stove; recommended I try different pellets (see above). The old Brinkman, which was built like a tank, never made combustion noises that I recall (though it did make plenty of mechanical noises by the time we got into the house!).
Just wondering if there’s any way to reduce the wind roar (airflow or seal issues?) or if this is in fact relatively typical. Appreciate any advice or recommendation!
