I bought a used Santa Fe, and I am wondering about the placement of the shield to the baffles. The shield on top of the fire that covers the baffles can either fit snug to the left side edge, or right side edge. Both sides have slots where it can sit. It looks like the shield isn't wide enough, and it doesn't sit in the middle. If it is supposed to be offset, which side is best?

To the right, where the opening is for the exhaust fan behind the right back brick. that way it draws the heat over the heat exchanger tubes on the left side, before it goes out the exhaust opening. What year stove is it? kap

might be sticker inside hopper as to what year

Page 2 in the owner's manuals for the Santa Fe MBK and B1 say the rating plate, that has the production month and year stamped on it, is on the back side of the left side panel.

Some have a big sticker on inside of left door, on stove. kap

They updated them that year. Change air wash and back brick. More air flow. Newer ones a different now too. Mines Dec. 05. kap

So I should have an updated model then? Should I still go through it after the season and look to seal the combustion blower and air intake and whatnot?

You should always go thru your stove after season, getting it clean, this also includes taking the heat deflector off and cleaning the tubes real good, taking the two back brick off and cleaning behind them, emptying the hopper and spraying down firebox and pot with pam or fogging oil, or paint it to prevent rust. You should also plug the end of the exhaust pipe and air intake to keep humid weather, bugs, and critters out. Read your manual a few times thru. Lots of good info in there to help you understand and take care of your stove. It is your best friend for this. Stay warm. kap

If someone else is in this position, after the change they also released a kit, UK-30KPEL, which converts the older design ot the new one with clips to move the side mounts for the back bricks forward, and a new top baffle plate. You can find it from a few eBay sellers. It came out in 2005, and the top plate fits the model until the 2009 redesign, which I found helpful since my 2008 baffle plate had surprisingly shrunk just a smidgen over the years, and was no longer sitting securely on its tab and hook. The plate from one of these kits was the fix for that. I didn't have use for the side clips of course. But the plate's a perfect fit.
