Ready to get into woods again?

Here in the fingerlakes area of NY state, the deer season is slowly winding down and I'm looking forward to cutting timber again. I hope we have an open winter until I get most of next years logs cut.
How about you guys? Anyone with me out there?

I'm with you. Deer season ends Friday. After the meat is all taken care of we'll be hitting the woods hard. I'll both be cutting firewood and also doing some hinge cutting. Firewood will probably come first though. As it gets into hard winter I'll also start cutting down some soft maple for the deer. They love it.

Especially when they're armed and drunk. They have a tendency to shoot whatever moves, even their hunting buddies.

Only a hat?? I would have an entire orange jumpsuit on! I don't own any woods, but if I did, I would for sure try to avoid ANY misinterpretation on the hunters part. We have had 3 or 4 accident this year already in Central NY with hunters shooting eachother.

PS. what do yo do when you find them on your property? Point towards the posted signs? Call the DEC and have them arrested? Ask them to leave? Do you take their stands if you find them? Or the automatic deer cameras? You could make money on Ebay selling that stuff

I had a fried that caught out of state people hunting on his ground. He ended up with enough ammo for about 2 years. Those people never came back again.

Glad there are still guys like me who love to work in the winter woods. I find that my wood cutting not only keeps me warm but also improves the hunting. I love to hunt grouse. My land is along the Skaneateles watershed.

We have some problems with guys hunting neighboring land. They love to set up right on the line and then set up to shoot on our property. This year I purposely cut some wood right during prime hunting time. A guy was in a blind. I wished him a happy hunt and suggested he consider moving a bit.

I only have about five acres in woods, ten in field. I love venison and woodcutting, but i don't understand the 'lazy' hunters who try to hunt around here (houses)- when all they have to do is walk across the road and they have about 4000+ acres of beautiful woods, with some of the bigest deer (and moose and bear) in southwestern NH. I rarely see anyone go 'into' the woods to look for deer- can't figure...lazy or scared ?
So, when I see em hanging out at the end of the road... I go cut something with my chainsaw.

I lived in Rochester for a bit but then had to get away from the city and moved to the lake. What a great choice.

When I see hunters on my land, I run out and give them a signed permission paper to hunt on my land for recreational purposes. That way, if they get hurt while on my property, I am not responsible, because I gave them permission, they can not hold me lible for any accidents they might have. Conn. state law.

If they hunt on my property without permission and have a accident, they could sue me.

Hey booshcat,
I live on the Glen Haven Road about 3mi. up from the south end. Great area with lots of mixed hardwoods.
The most fun I have is being able to use my 1950 Dodge Power Wagon and it's 10 ton winch to skid the logs. Hope to cut alot of hophornbeam this year.

eernest, your state must have some strange laws. MI protects the land owner a little better than that.

I'll put off cutting a couple more days now. Shot a buck this afternoon. Almost froze my hands taking care of it too! Also, they are forecasting a nasty storm for this weekend. If we get ice with snow then that will hold off the cutting a few days.
