Semi productive weekend

Finally had a weekend to catch up on my splitting! Was able to put the fiskars to rest for a change as my wife's cousin let me borrow his splitter for a while. Got almost everything split that I wanted to. Put in about 5 hours yesterday and another couple hours this afternoon. Now I have to find the time to stack it all before I bring home any more.

I estimate 1/50 cord.

Very productive day. I got almost 1/2 "face" s/s this afternoon.

I love a stack like that. What I do is start stacking right beside the pile. Saves a lot of work for sure. Pick up a couple splits, turn and lay them on the stack. Stacking like that makes it go much faster.

Dam great job! Any idea how many cords and how many hours of work on the splitter?
I usually do a few wheel barrows at a time... So that's a crazy looking pile to me...

Thanks guys! Now I just have to stack it all. Probably start working on that tonight for a couple hours and hopefully have it all done by mid week. I need more pallets!

LOL He heats with wood as well but he works for a large tree company here in CT and has the benefit of getting wood on a daily basis if he wanted to.

This was about 8 or 9 hours on the splitter total and if I had to take a stab at it I would say there is at least 2.5 to 3 cord maybe. Not sure though, could end up being more. The pile is just as wide as it is long.

1) You have that much split
2) You can borrow a splitter
3) Your cousin works for a tree service
4) You have a bobcat. I really want a bobcat.

Yeah, the splitter was a northern tool 30 ton and it doesn't have the best cycle time. Great machine though and I am more than grateful to be able to use it! I probably could had squeezed out a bit more but the kids were outside playing and it was constant, yet pleasant, disruptions. LOL.

I was very lucky in the last month or so in that I was able to score some serious wood loads from a couple job sites that I am currently working on! As for the splitter, I am very grateful that he let me use it. I do feel bad though as he just bought the thing and I feel as if I am abusing the machine on him. As for the Bobcat, it is very convenient to have around, really helps with moving the wood from point A to point B not to mention fun to run!

Great thanks, when I was looking to rent a splitter, people were telling me they split a cord an hour..... Now that I have my splitter, I don't see how that is possible, 1/3 cord yes.....now I'm glad that I bought it so I can split when I want and how much I want..

Ram, ask 'em what their definition of a cord is. Maybe they meant 1/3 cord, but call it a cord.
Happens a lot around here ( as in, the area I live).

I think the smaller the rounds the faster your going to be able to split. I will say that I was up against it with most of the rounds I split were well over 20" in diameter! Once I got into the smaller stuff I was able to keep the splitter in the horizontal position and everything seemed to be going faster. The big ones take some time!
