We have been having some issues that we finally solved with negative pressure (thanks for the advice on here). Now, our kitchen wood stove has a small smoke leakage around the collar when the door is open and we are lighting the fire. When we close the door, the smoke leakage stops. We had the chimney people we use out here for the negative pressure and they said to caulk around the collar and that should solve the problem. I remember seeing something on here that you can't do that? Or maybe it was because they had wrapped tape around one of the joints?

Is it safe to use the fireplace caulk around the collar to seal it tighter?

Thanks

here is a picture of the collar and where the caulk would go around to seal it [Hearth.com] smoke leakage issue

You can use RTV Silicone, furnace cement or stove gasket material to fill the gap between the flue collar & the first section of connector pipe.
