Stripped set screw on a p61 combustion fan

Father-in-law bought it used and I'm cleaning it up and replacing a few things. I wanted to remove the fan but the set screw is stripped. The motor still works, I don't want to have to cut the shaft and replace the whole thing. Would like to just replace the fan. Thanks.

Apply your favorite penetrant than buy some cobalt left handed drill bits and drill it out. Usually the penetrant will loosen it up and it will come out with the drill bit.

Looks like you might have had to do a little demolition to get it off?

Fan didn't look bad at all. Think you may have made yourself a lot of work

It was pretty bad. That's all rust build up on there now. I wanted to get it off in case the combustion motor failed and it would have to come off anyway. Behind the fan was caked with ash. A new one was $15. Just trying to save myself the headache later. It took less than a minute to cut through.

So you cut it with a dremel or die grinder or such ?? Wondering for future reference..

5" cutter/ grinder. Worked great, just hooked the stove up. I'll have pics in a few.

Yes, I tried drilling it out once, then I just took the die grinder and made a cut just like that! Good work, that is the way to go!

Thx Doni tried drilling it out to, PITA. It was off in less than a minute. Got the stove all installed today. I'm going to start a thread on it.
