Old Harman P61 doesn't work on room mode

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
In room mode, with that switch "up" "auto" when you reach the desired temperature the stove will shut off and the status light go out.
When you flick the switch down, and the room is hot enough, the distribution blower will shut off, the feed will be reduced, but the stove will stay on.
So that's the answer to my issue? I'm doing more reading and it seems right

I'm afraid our trouble shooting got way off track when we thought you had no igniter (true) and an old version control card (false).
You will find out shortly if the issue is solved. Label that switch. An easy way is to use some masking tape and write the text on one full piece, then cut a hole in the center and apply.

I've done more reading and yes it's suppose to turn off and on. I was told not to run it with out it on. So here goes.

The other issue we have not resolved is the proper dip switch settings. I had thought that the solution was to properly set the dip switches. That could still be the proper solution, however we can try the switch right away.

If you start using the switch, you should read the sticky post of how Harman run:

Edit - Most important would be when you switch to Stove Mode. The switch has a function in that mode also. You can just keep the switch up in Stove Mode. That could be why the technician said to leave it up?

Well it's still running in idle, just waiting too see what low temp it comes back on at. Distribution fan off still feeding.
Couldn't wait for 76, touched it up to 80 and it came on. So it might be hot for a while. Better to be a little hot, then a little cold. The temperature I need is 76 on the closest gauge to keep the living area at the back where I want it, so when it reached 76 and didn't come on, I bumped the stove up from 77 to 80 before it came on. I can fine tune as I go.

New problem, it's not feeding enough pellets to warm up the house now, when I first got it working it would just pour the pellets out. Now I doubt it will warm anything up. Looks like it's running on 2, before it looked like it was running on 6 huge flames a foot tall. Not getting more then 3 inches this time.

Did you try turning up the temperature? Is the temperature where the probe is the same as what you have it set for?
What do you have your feed rate at?

First things first, I had a big pile of unburnt pellets at the back. Cleaned them all out. Second the feed rate is way off. I'm still trying to get a decent flame out of it. Looks like its running on
2. Unplugged and plugged it back in again. No change.
Try it on temp 5 and feed rate 5
I've got it on 7 now, looks like it's on 2. Feed rate is 3. I've changed nothing since this morning. It's all happened sometime since I finished testing. My first test I had the house up to 81 in 10 minutes. Now I doubt I could.

It's definitely the feed rate . Looks like I cooked the board or something. It's on 7 running around 4 or 5 from the looks on it. It's getting 2 rotations every time. It's definitely not feeding like it was on my first test. Flames maybe 6-7 inches.

It's recovering some what from what I can see. I'm leaving it on 7 and hoping it will work itself out. Getting enough heat for tonight. Tomorrow a different story
