One downside to a BK stove... Nobody in your neighborhood or at work will know what you're talking about. I'm hoping at least when I call up a sweep to come and inspect the chimney with a camera he will know what a BK stove is. I don't want to get the speech of "you're suppose to make small hot fires, not slow smoldering ones"

A guy at work knew I used a wood stove (I take 4x4s broken off pallets home to burn), so he asked me what kind of stove I use (he's a "stove expert"). I said a Blaze King, and tells me he never heard of it and asks if it's a Chinese brand. Then the conversation turns in to, Oh those catalytic stoves are awful they break every year and don't put out as much heat as mine.

It's a shame I didn't tell him I mainly burn pine/cottonwood/willow! That conversation would have ended with me at the police station

How long have you had the stove ohlong? 600 cat seems really low for a 500 stove top. My cat sits around 800 Turned all the way down on 1.
Unless our stoves are that much different... is the blower on?

My stove is 1 year old this month,I have only used the blower a couple of times for a quick warmup.don't know if our stoves are different but that's what i've noticed so far. I don't think, I have a problem we've never been cold yet and,and it's for the most part hassle free.

Okay 22 hours on the monstrous load,house at 72 plenty of coals probably could have burned the coal bed down and got another 2 hours but why bother I didn't look at my stove for 22 hours.

We picked up 10 standing dead scotch pines yesterday-the property owner came and asked it it was for an OWB because you know, you can't burn pine in your inside stove...Yup, it's for an AWB uh-huh...Never tell anyone that believes pine/willow/whatever is bad that it isn't, they might be fighting you at your next scrounge!! I think the guy yesterday would have kept it if he thought it was worth anything more than bonfire or OWB wood.

Have you looked at the Sciracco? It's actually not all that bad.

Its getting better, but that is a little stove. 1.8 cuft firebox isn't even a consideration for me. 18" log max. I'm looking for a big ol honkin' box (like the king) that has the operation of Blaze King and the looks of a classic cast stove (like the Isle Royale).

I think he said it was at the 3 o'clock position which is "2" on my stove and turned it up from there. That's not silly hot but the burn times definitely drop when I'm greater than 2. I think Solar on a high burn can torch a load in 12 hours! I usually run mine in the 1 3/4 area most the time and right around 2 if we have teen or lower type weather. On a load I weighed earlier this year it was 54 lbs and I got 15 hours of meaningful heat out of it.(temps in the teens)

I'd still love to side by side compare, but ain't got that kind dough.

Yep. I turn mine off on milder, sunny days, otherwise it is on all the time. The way my house is laid out, I need it. Turning it on or off makes at least a two degree difference on the hall thermostat within ten minutes. I can stand in the hall and feel the difference in heat moving down. The stove doesn't face the hallway. It is in a corner, facing almost directly away from it.

We were in the teens last night about 19*,if you figure a pound of wood at 7500 btu's per pound,that's 750000 thousand btu's divided by 22 hours ,that means the King put out 34090.09 btu's per hour and kept us toasty. I'm not complaining,try that with any other stove,I have with 4,2 Quadrafire 5700,largest Morso made and Bucks largest the 94,now with my experience they never came close.I have no reason or desire to achieve a 40 hour burn by definition,maybe one day when I'm bored we'll give it a shot but now I'm satisfied with the BK'S performance and maintenance of a house temp that only varied 2,* in that time frame.

The beauty of the King as I see it is the ability to load up for the long haul and have the stove carefully manage the burn at a controlled rate. I keep threatening to measure the weight of the wood I use in a 24hr period and keep forgetting. But I'm quite sure its way less and most likely less than half of that. But I ad in 2 splits at a time ( and they are small lightweight splits) every 3-4 hrs to maintain an even stove top in the 500-600 degree range. So I'm basically metering fuel in to a very well istablished fire and only adding in few so as to not cool it off whith new fuel.

The summit's a good stove, it has that ebt or whatever its called that evens out the burns somewhat, I have a friend that heats his 2500 sf house with a Summit from the unfinished basement, he renovated his house with new doors, windows and spray foam insulation so its tight but the stoves a beast.

The Summit was on my short list and still a stove I'd like to burn some day. If you get bored weigh a load, I think it'll be similar to my Princess.

Over the weekend my evening burns went 17 and 18 hours,(stove tops around 300) during the week I stick to a 12 hour load schedule or so, it fits my work schedule better. We have some warm days coming up so I'll shoot for those 24 hour burns.
