Went up north for a few days to do some odds and ends for Mom. One of the things on the "to so list" was to drop a couple dead ash . No problem, but in her township they don't allow open burning so all the small branches I loaded into my truck and took them to the township compost center.

Pulled in and first thing I see is wood all cut up and piled at end of a row. I'm more than a few years ahead (about 8 :) ) so I'm picky but I just had to check it out. Got out of truck and before I even was close enough to make an ID I smelled OAK. Well needless to say it all took a ride back home with me! Sure doesn't get any easier than that!

I'm going to make it a point to try to find more wood that's already cut up! >>

My recycle center does the same thing. THe wood pile was so big they pushed it over the bank and buried it as no one was takin it. WHen i run out of wood from rehabbing houses ill have a lifetime supply just haulin it in from the RC. Just back up to the big pile of rounds and pick out the hardwood. About 10,000 people in the surrounding town and not many wood burners.

I was really surprised to see it . Lots of people are burning wood in the area , especially with those OWB.

Zap, I'll be Sanford any day . Loved that show!

If that happens again, it might be best to drop it off at my place. That would ease the work for the truck and even give you better gas mileage. Just thought I'd offer some help for you ole buddy. ;)

Hope you also had good weather for cutting that ash. It was cool here so probably a bit cooler up there. Better to do it on Memorial Day than Independence Day!

It crossed my mind dropping it off at your place Dennis, but I didn't like the thought of you making the lovely Judy split that oak while you were drinking iced tea on the front porch again! Besides I think this oak MUST be split horizontal! :D

Sav, speakng of being wet, we might get 1.5 inches of rain tomorrow, that should fill the brook.

I've been lucky at the compost pile a couple of times. The town has rules on branch size, nothing more than 4" in diameter. But the rules don't seem to apply to town employees. On 2 occasions, just after storms this past winter, I have made my way to the town yard to find the towns' chipper truck dumping chips with some decent size logs in the mix. Drooling as I wait for them to leave, I look to my left, then to my right, score! A truckload of 16" logs.

Hang on zap. I looked at the rain gauge this morning and dumped out 2 1/2"

To say the least Dave, although the 3/4 ton pickup rode real nice on the way home with all that weight.

We got 2" rain here Sav, suppose to pour concrete for the new sugarhouse this week but looks like plans may get pushed back a bit. :(

We received some but not anything close to that number, Saturday & Sunday could be wild days up here. It looks like everything is staying south of us so far.

I did head to the woods but only 4 picking some leeks, one last pick this weekend then I'm done for the year.

Funny, plans have a way of getting pushed back a lot around here!

It was really funny today. On Hemlock Road just south of Brant the Bad River crosses. There is a small field on the east side of the road and when the flooding is bad most of that field will have lots of water. As we went across that bridge this morning I told my wife the water would be higher when we came back. Even I was amazed just how much higher the water way in only 3 hours! Most fields have lots of standing water too and we saw several farmers with shovels in their hands.
