Went into my local Lowes today looking for an ash shovel and they had grills where the heating stuff used to be. Another row was completely empty and ready for "summer" stuff. They had a few hearths on the floor but I didn't check the prices. A little early don't ya think?

20% off all the 'fire' stuff at my local Lowes. Still only brings prices down to where they were last year at regular price prior to this years price increases. I am not really in the market for anything so will wait it out and see what happens in another month or so.

In addition - yeah, they did have some shelves cleared out and appeared ready to bring in the spring stuff.

Yup, got to love the retail world that we give all our hard earned money to. The day after Christmas stores had the Valentine's stuff out (amazing what the 3rd shift employees had to do), and now Easter goodies are out too. We get your winter coat in the July when it's 90 degrees out; or a bathing suit in January when it's -25 outside. Happens every year. Nothing better than paying $49.50 on sale for an item (that we probably don't really need) that was originally $129.99, but the store only paid $7.12 for including the freight costs to get it here from China.

If you are serious about purchasing a stove, go to the store and ask to either speak to
the dept. mgr - zone mgr- or store mgr. They may work with you right on the spot.

Does Lowes or Home Depot ever discount their log splitters?

yup as i mentioned in previous posts -

my Lowes had the 33 ton troy built marked down to $1,799.00 two weeks ago (from $2,200.00). i called and said if they would sell it for $1,500.00 i'd come in and buy it - they did and i did

I worked at Lowes for 2.5 years. Generally, get past the kid in the aisle, talk to a dept mgr or higher, and they are very willing to give you a good deal.

Just as a side note, last year I picked up a Century Hearth 2000 sq ft model for $369.

Yup, I pointed out the scratch on the back of their floor model and got the same Century for $307.
