The Stacking Begins

I've used landscape timbers ( from HD ) and for whatever reason the yellow ground bees liked making nests under them.
The PT couldn't have been very good because they rotted fairly fast. Glad i didn't use them for a retaining wall.

That Cherry that's in the pic on the ground, I'm stacking, did that last fall. It would have been nice for milling.

I did the same thing.... I bucked up a 15" cherry..... and thought to myself WTF did I just do???????

We only use hophornbeam for "bull sticks"... unless we are completely clearing an area.... AHHB doesn't get big enough here to fool with as a fuel source....

Stacked three loads of Cherry hauled in the TUB tonight before eating, pic 7014 is what's left, it should be enough to finish off this rack.

I'll miss my goal of having three racks done by Friday but I'm still heading to the woods this weekend, rain or shine.

That's exactly why I stared using pallets ! We had bees like crazy when we used landscape timbers and always underneath. That's the first time I have heard any body else say that. Wow I am not the only crazy one anymore

I decided to stack two loads of Cherry tonight, I'll finish this rack tomorrow. This Cherry was cut late last fall then stacked in a high wind area (not much sun) it's checking up real good.

We will burn this for the 2014-15 heating season, pic 7083 is what's left.

How deep are you putting those end posts? I've got a pretty hilly yard and have been given the mandate to get the wood stacks out of the driveway. Thinking of a cheap alternative and if those posts are sturdy enough essentially make a fence that borders the field behind my house. Heck, might even stop some of the weed seeds from finding their way to my flower beds.

It all depends on how you stack the ends, I try to keep the pressure on the t-post leaning in.

jdp, you can get the t-posts in different lengths. Not sure about zap's but I think he has 6 footers. Check me if I'm wrong zap.

zap...thanks for the idea. Started moving my wood to the back of my house and the T posts seem to work good. Haven't got to the steeper pitch yet, but I suspect it will be fine given how sturdy the posts are when a foot in the ground. Picked up a bunch of free pallets on the side of the road on my way to get the posts so I didn't have to spring for landscape timbers. The wife should be happier to not have to look at that wood in the driveway as well as that field of weeds.

It looks great, our first year we stacked on the southside of the house, come spring time I ended up moving what was left to a new area, it took away our view of the woods so the move made the wife happy.

Just two more racks of Cherry then I'm done in that area, I still have enough to split that I should be busy through May, then it's milling time up in the bowl.

A fine stack of wood is always good.

We finally received some rain last night, this weekend might be all rain. If it keeps me inside then some chains will get sharpened, if it's not bad then I'll split the cherry,maple and the beech so I can pick some leeks for a neighbor up the road.
