Thermostat for Quadra-Fire Classic Bay 1200i

Hello everyone,
I've been reading a few posts around the site and gather some great information to "fix" small issues with my pellet stove (Quadra-Fire Classic Bay 1200i).
The stove was already in place when we moved in and was working fine, this was about 3 1/2 years ago. Last year the first problem was the control box,got replaced with the clear case style and no issues again. Last week I noticed that it was not igniting a fire, I checked everything and found out that the thermocouple was in bad condition, the very end has the two ends wires separated and the ceramic cover had a little crack. So, I decided to change that . Gave the stove an entire cleaned up and working fine again.
Two days ago,the kids were playing and by accident they broke the quadrafire thermostat; the one that looks like this:


so I was reading this site and came across this threat:

And went to Lowes and at the time they were out of that specific model,bu they got the Lux/TX500U,which I thought it was pretty much the same, followed steps as post #2....but can't seem to get mine to work.
Meaning, the stove fires regular when I set it to run,but sometimes doesn't even reaches the temperature that I set and shuts down .
So I decided to do Program by week,but either I'm doing something wrong or something else it's causing the stove or thermostat to "don't communicate" to each other.

So, please.....Anyone that uses a similar thermostat ,I beg you to post here a step by step guide for people like me that can't seem to find a way around this things.

I also play with the Gas/Electric setting.No luck.

I don't see anything about on the manual papers or the thermostat itself.

Hooking the new thermostat now, this time they had the mode "TX1500Uc" so I grabbed it.
I'm working on setting up the programming week & weekend so it runs on different temperature when no one's home.
My questions are:
- How do I know that it's running as "Item #08 Temperature Swing (I selected option 2 into this setting)"?, I don't see an "Enter or Apply" option/button..
- By default it comes with the Gas option selected in the circuit board,should I leave alone or change to electric? I'm confused about this,since the manual says it's to control the fan.

If they have a contact #, I would call the tstat company and talk to them on what you are doing if the manual does not cover what you need to know.

Have the same thermostat.

I would set the temperature swing to 8, which would be 2 degrees.

Leave it set to gas.

I have "talked" to the support online, they said to keep it either gas or electric it shouldn't matter on a pellet stove.
I had it set to electric and once it runs,reaches the wanted temperature (70), the stove does its thing and shuts off,totally normal. But it's even 60 degrees now and it doesn't kick back on,thermostat still set to 70.
I'm moving the pin to gas and will let you know if that makes a difference.

I have a similar thermostat that i replaced the one they gave me at install (the same old one you posted a photo of), I replaced my old one with a Lux similar to yours (Lux Pro PSP511 ).

I just hooked it up as heat only furnace (just two wires) and I think there was a jumper (already in place).

Then I had to adjust the temp to match my thermostat for our furnace, and I set the swing to 1.5 (3 total) degrees (number 6 I think ).

That's all I did and it works great with my Quadra-fire Castile insert.

- Circuit board set to gas, same issue.....stove didn't kick back on last night after running a cycle.
-The Swing setting on mine it's #8 Item,once there you can choose between 1-9 (option,this I have set it at 2. Changing it to 3 and see what happens.

I'm very frustrated with this,not sure why it's not working as it should. :'(

Hopefully this makes a difference,off to work now and I'll report back at the end of the day.

What terminals do you have the wires hooked up to?

A swing set at only 3 could be causing your problems. You need to have the swing set to eight, 2 degrees, in order to let the stove cool properly before the next restart. If the thermocouple does not get below the proper temperature you are going to have issues. Not sure if it is 200 or 300 that it needs to get below.

About the Swing, I thought that it was needed to be set a 2,inside the Item #8.Confusing for sure..
So it was like this:



(It's in off position in the pic,cause it needs to be to be able to show the menu), So, now where the number "2" was I have set number "8".
Is that correct or I keep messing stuff up....? Running it now......

rexrules is right, everything looks correct. Not sure what else the issue could be...

It is most likely the swing setting. At setting 2 it was only half a degree. The stove wouldn't be able to cool in time for the thermocouple and snap discs to send the correct signals on a restart.

I have mine programmed for 2 degrees cooler overnight and when we are working. If I want to change the temp other than how it is programmed I just hit up or down and then press the hold button. It will stay like that until I take it off.

rexrules is right again, don't mess with manual mode etc for a temporary temperature set, just use the arrow keys and set it and press hold. That should hold it until you either press hold again, or put it down to the original setting, or I think if it hits the next time period it will reset to whatever you have it set to...

I have mine set to 71 during the day (so it actually heats to 72.5 because of my swing setting), then it shuts off until the room temp gets down to 69.5 then it kicks back on. I am used to the up and down temp, it's just when you get to feel like it's getting cool, and it will kick on. That just what we are used to and don't mind it. We don't like our house super warm like some folks around here seem too.

I may bump the night temp up a bit when it gets super cold as it's easier to maintain a temperature in a house than it is to raise it every morning, but this winter has been so mild I haven't had to experiment with it yet...

What kind of stove are you running? Does your stove go in to low burn or off when temp is met?

I have a Quadrafire Castile insert. So when the temp is met it turns off. Then kicks back on when needed. It starts very quickly, around 2 minutes. Then about 7 minutes later the blower kicks on. Shut off is about 20 minutes.
