My Valor Portrait direct vent fireplace 530IN with coals is putting out to much soot. Horizontal venting to side of house. Photo of exhaust vent with soot. So I need to change the restrictor settings? Think I may

redo the horizontal venting to all vertical. Stove has been running for about a year.

You should take a look at the air shutter setting, as well. Looks to be running rich, ie. too little combustion air. Opening the air shutter can mitigate this. What do your flames look like? Can you post a pic?

Will be converting ducting horizontal to vertical. Wow, the prices for Duravent pipe are up almost 30% and having trouble rerouting because of 10" offset going through attic.
