Well, humpf...... it's raining, stacks not covered and my foot is black & blue........

Well............ I was going to get the wood stacks covered for winter this weekend...... but I procrastinated partly due to wind conditions.

We have enough wood up at the house (covered) for about 1 week so that's good.

Then it started raining.......

and more rain in the forecast......

Tonight I dropped a claw hammer on my bare foot........

instantly turned my foot purple......

It swelled up real nice.

It's my right foot........

hope it's not broke.....

I'm the only driver in the household...........

......and I still have wood stacks to cover.

Shari, I've heard that heat is good with an injury like that to keep the swelling down...time to crank up the Oslo! I got my wood covered up like a good boy...then we got high winds with yesterday's rain, my top-covers blew off and my wood got wet anyway.

Actually, I have split allegiances since I spent my first thirty years in WI. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool lover of all things cheese. Hmmm, I could go for a Spotted Cow right about now...

Speaking of cheese...... Mars Cheese store in Wisconsin on US94 just north of the WI/IL border has an awesome breading for deep fried cheese curds. The clue to great cheese curds is freeze them individually, wet while frozen with egg or milk, roll in the breading & deep fry for less than 1 minute. Yummy!

Our doggie is 15+ yrs. old. She's lost quite a few teeth in these last yrs. I feed her a mix of canned and dry dog food. I have to break up (hammer) the dry food to almost crumbs before I mix it in....

I forgot to put the hammer away after using it and bumped it in passing...........

Hi Shari, ever try one of the old clamp on the cutting board hand crank grinders for size reduction of the kibble? Hand crank coffee bean grinder comes to mind as well . Lot less mess. I have done it with an old food processor as well, Cruise the goodwill stores some always show up for a couple bucks.

Just drove through Wisconson a few weeks ago and loved the cheese curds I had. I need to find a source for those, wonder if I can find decent ones to order and have shipped online.

Looks even better this morning - almost the whole top of my foot is purple. At least I can walk (limp) on it.

I get no sympathy from hubby.

At least you folks are at least (somewhat) sympathetic.

Too bad your wood went uncovered and got wet. I joined that club a week ago when clever me thought to take the tarp off and drain the small pools of water collected in spots. Nice sunny day, sure I figure leave the tarp off to dry good. Getting old, and forgot to recover. Rained like heck that night and about every day since! Now normally this isn't a big deal but this particular pile is my semi punky, junky shoulder wood. Yup like a sponge.

A few years ago dropped a hay wagon tongue on my foot. Turned purple just like yours. Healed up in a couple months. Don't bend right since though. My wife takes no pity as I doctor myself through these things and generally create more problems for myself than if I just went to the doctor in the first place. Good luck with your foot.

Did you ever notice, when you were a kid, that when you scraped a knee it always seemed to be the same knee? Kind of like "Okay, I'm falling put that knee down first."

I think this right foot of mine is the same thing. It's been bummed up at least 3 other times in fairly recent memory.

Oh well, I'm still above ground / walking around so all's well.

This doesn't help right now, but just put enough water in the dry food to get it a bit mushy. Works well.
Little story on a similar note. When I was a kid, my sis was ironing in the living room and I bumped the board which caused the iron to fall........it hit the heel of my right foot and cut a nice flap of skin. Bled a bit too. I still remember that, and it was at least 50 years ago.
I feel your pain.

No laughs here-
I hope your foot feels better.. It's amazing what we are willing to do for our pets. I slept on the couch the last year of my other dogs lives.. They always slept in the bed,
and when the bulldog couldn't make it into the bed, I slept on the couch. Then the little one couldn't make it, so I stayed on the couch with my arm down touching her. When she died in Feb, it was weird sleeping in the bed again.

Kick back, put your feet up, and relax. And spoil the pup.

Shari, sorry to hear about the foot but I would not worry about that wood getting wet. We still have lots of wood that is uncovered. Some day soon we'll get at it but am in no hurry at all.

I bought a mortar and pestle at a kitchen store to grind things up for my dog, works well.

Lot of us don't bother to cover the firewood. I tried several different methods, but I can't find something that will stay on top of the woodpiles with the 70+mph winds we get here.

I've had to drive manual trans vehicles before by using a stick to push the clutch in because of a screw up foot... when there's a will there's a way!

I wouldn't worry about the wood getting wet. I ran out of sheeting to cover our wood a while back, and the stuff that's open to the elements seems as happy as that which I covered.
Just one sunny breezy day and it'll all be as dry as tinder.........

Just take care of your foot, and let your wood stack take care of itself.....................
