Looks like maple, especially with the faint ring in the center. What say you? Free by a co workers house

Yea, a bit far away to tell, I’d take a ride for that though, if it were close. Maple burns fine, and there’s a chance it’s something better!

Depending on the weather this week, I will take a ride up there. Probably about 20 to 25 minutes away. I have a huge side job this week starting tomorrow and that unfortunately willtake priority.

Possible rain Thursday, but that would be the day I could probably get up there

That bark is looking like red oak to me, although tough to definitively say from such a distance. I don’t see the darker heart wood I’m used to seeing with maple variety’s.

Could be. I see a very faint ring resembling mapleIn the center of some pieces but it just could be the picture. If I’m able to make it
Up there Thursday and it’s still there I’ll be sure to update.

My guess would be Silver Maple. Center looks a little 'grubby' and the rounds are large. The bark showing some silver on some pieces but not so much on others. So.....

I have split lots of silver maple and doesn’t match the silver maple that’s typically found here. I have some red maple trees that it is a close match, slim possibility of oak, but won’t know for sure until I see or don’t see those “rays” up close

I can't tell from the photo. I"m guessing red oak or red maple. Too far away.

Looked like red oak bark but the wood itself looks maple
