Early evening reload of a few pieces of cherry around 4pm. Have the oak and hickory staged for the incoming cold tonight through monday. Small amount of snow forecasted for my area but single digit temps, negative windchills.

The dragon is warming up with some Amazon paper, splitting slash, wood scraps and two maple splits I tossed on top once it got going. Hopefully burning hot for a few hrs cleans the glass up.

Lots of wind for the next three days, so far gusts have been about 40 mph; combined with 15F outside, the real feel is chilly 🥶

Getting some spruce going now and hoping to get the house back into the 70s after a day of working out in the cold.

Mama's an ugly ole biatch, with lots of battle scars.

Nightly reload with 2 mystery logs, 1 big maple, 1 small maple and one medium ash. If anyone wants to guess what the bark in the second picture is, feel free. It was heavy for its size so I’m guessing oak or some hickory variant.

But if it's big, that gets less likely.

If it was very blonde, could possibly be sugar maple....heavy stuff. Bark can resemble that from midway and up.

Burning red oak with a split or two of cedar mixed in with each load. The stove did not seem to be warming up the house much untill about three hours in the temps inside started to rise. I thought I had it burning hot. Not sure what was going on.. house has been toasty since around noon tho.

Been feeding the ole girl a steady diet of red and white oak. Supposed to get pretty cold for the next couple of days.
I'll be out tomorrow gathering a truck load of wood.

It was lighter; but it’s probably 3-4 yrs old so it’s really dirty. Good guess though, there’s been a lot of maple mix in (red and silver).

Hello from North Arkansas, my wood burning friends. Down to 16 tonight hot as hell in the house right now like 81f .. Oops. I goofed up all the timing today but sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning there will be more red oak and hickory in the stove. I hope everyone is doing well.

It's 19.4 out tonight, the basement temp is starting out at 75 with the temps up here 69 & 68. The wood stove has six splits of beech and one of ash in it for the overnight load.

Tossed in some cherry with a little is (half load) around dinner time to set me up for tonight. This is All oak plus 1 big chunk of cherry on bottom left. Snow moving in tonight with single digit temps tomorrow night with wind chills around -10. Won’t be running the stove sadly on one of the coldest nights of the year with me being at work tomorrow night 😕

Woke up to some snow on the ground, 25F temp with NW winds. More cold on the way, morning reload of red oak and a few hickory splits.

Back up and running, STT was 140 when I came out, and minimal coals… so the mystery wood must not have been oak /hickory (those typically burn much longer overnight). At least the shop was 59’still!

The stove has a piece if maple, pine and ash in it to warm it up.

-20/75 Another cold one this morning. Got up early and filled the stove full of Oak. Nice toasty 75 in here now. Going through a lot of firewood with the cold snap!

Loaded up before I left with oak and a little cherry, last nights load wasn’t quite done, still had tons of big coals. It hindered the load a bit, but not a bad thing because I see the thermostat says 77 inside right now according to my app! That’s okay too because temps supposed to plummet as the day goes on and the winds going to increase.
