Turned our heat pumps off around 4:30 today and covered them to protect from all the ice they are predicting. We are in the 1/2 to 3/4 inches of ice. Got the stove going at the same time we turned off heat pumps. Currently the area where our thermostat is is 72. Kitchen is 69. I am shocked our lower level is staying at 66. I put a fan blowing up the stairs so I do not know if that is helping.

Current outside temp is 19 with 12 real feel. So far we haven't had crazy wind. There is a glaze of ice all over everything and its building as heavier stuff moves in. I am hoping we get less than predicted so we don’t lose power.

I guess I didn’t post last nights load, I have the air turned up and the coal bed is pumping. Single digits last night I had the fan on 2/4 and the stat at 3:15. House is nice and toasty. A little bit of a warm up today (20s) with over a foot of snow coming starting around 9 supposedly. ☕️ time

Had the blower set to medium with the air a little open last night, which is more than I normally do. House still down to thermostat setting heat did not cycle yet in main rooms). 6 feels like -8. Another full load of beech, sugar maple and oak plus 1 small split of mulberry. A couple of cut offs to fill gaps.

1 to 2 feet of snow incoming…

-35/75 Got up early at 5am and stoked the stove with 5 splits of Maple. 2.5 hours later still some flame and big pile of coals. Need to burn a little hotter so turned up the air from #1 to #1.5

Man -35 is crazy. Do you burn 2 stoves in your sig at the same time? How many sqft do you heat.? I was talking with the wife about your guys temps yesterday and she asked how our house would do in those temps? I said probably ok, king would be at full tilt and maybe some propane usage?

15 degF, light wind, about 4" of snow and some ice pellets. Nuttn' on the trees thankfully, so for now it's a dry snow. Now the waiting starts to see if the "warmer" ocean air comes in later and saves us from a severe icing event once the snow changes over. Forecast models are still not consistent as usual. Slept in till 645a, not enuff coals to reload, restarted the F45 with w & r oak. STT 450...No pictures as my puny loads pale in comparison to most load pics posted :) 71 downstairs now.

I burn the Fireview in my approx 1000 sq ft log cabin. The Jotul is in my garage workshop and the Nippa is a sauna stove in my separate bathhouse. -30-40’s are fine as long as there’s no wind. I could be warmer with a good stiff wind and it will feel much colder and seems to suck more heat from my cabin. I also use a propane wall heater when needed.

Cooling trend this evening should get us below freezing…currently high 40s outside

It’s relentless wind which keeps the indoors around 13C/ 55F so decided to light the Pandero to warm up the living room. Missus asked me to cold start a bit earlier as the feels like inside is a bit cooler than usual.

Usual inside
Chestnut/ Wht Oak
Chunk of Elm
Hazel and Wht Oak kindled
Buncha rotten junk on top

Woke up to 7F outside, thankfully light wind. The wind is supposed to come in tomorrow. Got about 5" of snow and that's since changed over to sleet. Supposed to get some freezing rain towards the evening.
Had a nice bed of coals leftover this morning. Threw a load of maple on top to get things going this morning. Staying nice and toasty so far.

Heavy snowfall here 24” expected. 14 outside. House staying at 73. We are keeping warm watching the Patriots game. Just reloaded with oak, ash, and maple. Trying to keep NG furnace from running. Buddy got at $800 gas bill!

Same here! Funny how 4 feels so warm with no wind and full sun! They are still calling for -24 by morning.
True, not quite as cold but outside for a while yesterday when it was 12.2º and mostly sunny, not really that bad.
It didn't take too long though that my fingers were freezing, but then again I didn't have proper cold weather work gloves on.
Split some kindling from a pallet in the garage, brought wood into the garage, house storage bin and living room where the
wood stove is. Covered what was left outside.

The snow has been coming down pretty good here in Connecticut since this morning. Wow, -24 pending! And I've seen lower posted here recently. Forecast said mid 20s for today. didn't make it much above 10º.

Yea still 10 here, should have been low 20s by now from what they were saying this am….more spruce just went in to tide us over til overnights load of hardwood.

It just hit 12 here. Supposed to be 24 by midnight but the "warming trend" hasn't been overwhelming. Pat's got around Denver so it's on to the SB.

Still snowing. Not sure how much we have on the ground. I decided to wait till morning and be surprised.

:)>>
Oak and maple 70 inside time to stoke the coals a little and reload.

Congratulations.

We made it through the storm and the Jotul F500 kept us warm. We uncovered our heat pumps 30 minutes ago. Main level stayed between 70-72 all day and night. Our downstairs stayed between 64-66. Stove top temp never went much over 450. We never saw high winds but they may arrive later tonight so we could still lose power. If so I will just start up the stove again.

The weather people said we were going to get 1/2 to 3/4 inch ice which never happened. We did get some but nothing like they were predicting.
