30 degrees warmer than yesterday morning
I think you meant...."less frigid" not "warmer" . -1 is d@#$ frigid:).... 14.0 here no melting yesterday. All oak in the F45. Hasn't made it to 70 in here yet. Heat came on at 4am. Although I couldn't get back to sleep hearing the heat run, I couldn't get my old body out from under the 5 blankets to restart till 630a . :(

Ha, your right and then I just went outside and noticed the wind chill, I’d rather take the -30 with calm winds!

We had - 1.4 earlier this morning before coffee, I have five splits of ironwood in the Liberty. This morning the basement was 72 with the temps up here 65 & 66.

This morning was 13 F, feels as -1.
Now 20 outside feels as 16 because the winds died down a bit, 69 upstairs.
Last night's load is done after 12 hrs.
Oak shorties for the day, with some pine to follow later this afternoon.

-2, -26 real feel. Stupid wind! 2nd load of pine and aspen is in. Great room is up to 71, bumped the thermostat up to 68 with the first load and that's where the back hall is sitting at. Enough heat works it's way back there to keep the furnace from running after it gets up to temperature.

Was 6 with a feels like -5 this morning before I left for work. Loaded up with a lot of beech, sugar maple and ash, and I think some mulberry too. Don’t have to worry about fighting coals tonight so didn’t mind using beech.

Home from work, stove cleaned out. All the beech coals turned to ash thankfully. Still had a few embers in there from 24 hours ago. Excellent wood if you want long coals. Glass wiped down, and a full load of ash to warm things up.

18 outside going down to 10.
70 upstairs.
Reload with red oak and two half sticks of mulberry in the gaps.

-5 real feel of -14. Going down to -12. Burning down coals. Will be a load of cherry, white ash and hickory going in shortly.

I'm out of the longer black ash that I loaded e/w that was in the basement. Everything I have now is 12" to load n/s. I've been bringing in cherry and birch from a tarped stack and it's been fine after a couple of days in the basement. Brought in some untarped 2 or 3 year old black ash and it hasn't been very good. It's been thawing and drying in the basement for several days (about 5). It is "surface dry" and should be well seasoned. Going to test MC tomorrow. Concerned that it's absorbed some free moisture and may need more time to dry out. Basement is heated and dry. Might have to give up on the black ash for this season.

-1 this morning, we’re slowly catching up to Nick and Todd in the frozen tundra region of the USA. Nice of you guys to share it with us 😜.
Last night was a load of hardwoods, the usual suspects oak, maple hickory and beech. I burned it pretty hot and when I got up for ☕️ I leveled the coal bed out and it’s about up to the door so I scooted them off to the right and made a nice valley for 3 decent size pieces of spruce to reside while the coal bed burns down. I have been working a bunch with the weather there’s been a lot of people off at work so the wife’s been running the stove. She does a decent job but the temps have been yo-yo-ing so today I’m going to be running hard to reach equilibrium.

If the sun makes an appearance, or not it wouldn’t surprise me. Yesterday fog was rolling in and out of the valley and today it’s pretty thick with a sneaky stiff wind, so cold air is above

Too chilly inside to not burn some garbage and give the humans somewhere to warm the nose, toes and mitts and to give the felines without access to heated rooms á comfy spot.

No Elm in there today…I’m thinking to save some for next year and mostly burn oak and hazel for the rest of the season. I have a fair amount of oak to split and gotta get out and cut branches before the leaves start popping…

As always a nice split of Chestnut and the rest is Wht oak/ hazel with a couple rotten 1” sticks of lime

-1 at when I loaded with aspen and black ash. Aspen took off like expected, black ash was sluggish. Got the ax and moisture meter and tested a couple of pieces (60 degrees, fresh split). Nice big solid chunk was 20-21%, big slightly punky chunk was waaaayyyy high 😳. Guess I'm done with the black ash for the season... It's been css'd since '23. Sitting under 18" of snow isn't helping.

I have a stack of aspen and a stack of cherry, birch and red maple top covered that I'll be using along with a bit of white ash and premiums still in the basement. For next season I'll be able to move the wood supply into a new storage bin in the attached garage during dry spells in late summer and early fall.
