Season light off. Later than usual this year. Got to 37F. Threw some oak splits in let her rip. New probe thermometer works great, it's good to be back!!

Although I enjoy sawing, splitting , burning, and saving on fuel bills, I'd prefer summer lasting longer. ..:)
I hear ya! Seems even shorter when you're living in the hills. I'm at about 1500' in elevation. At least I'm not up by the @thewoodlands homestead. He's got elevation and the cold of the north.

That sucks!! Hopefully you come up with the cash in the next few weeks!!
Working on that. We lightened our "luggage" that was sipping funds and driving up the utilities.
Getting finances reorganized, and taking care of business. Hopefully work picks up a little more too.

I would say this time is perfect for me right now, as we move into the colder months where I am I agree with you! Although I get to try out my new gas furnace this winter so that might make me a bit biased. ;lol

First little fire of the season with brand new cat. Just a tiny load of 3 pieces of punky ash as I really just wanted to take draft readings to see if I needed another section of pipe. got down to around 40 last night. Only 2nd season with the stove this new cat already seems more active then the one that came with the stove. So I’m excited to see if the heat output will be improved this year.

Your draft will increase with the colder temps.

Friday morning we had 28, we had a few shoulder season fires that night & in the morning. This morning it was 39, we had one shoulder season fire last night and one this morning.

The house was 66 so I ran the furnace about 7 minutes.

We had a few shoulder season fires last night that had the temp up here at 71. It was 39.5 this morning, no fire but I did run the furnace for 8 minutes. The temp up here this morning was 67.

I forget what stove are you running? A liberty? And how many cords do you average a year. I’m assuming a decent amount since your season starts much earlier than ours

Yes we have the Liberty. I'll break it down like this, usually 6 face cord of shoulder season wood and 10 face cord of hardwood. It would be much less than that but our stove is in the basement and we have cathedral ceilings. When it gets really cold we'll use the furnace more since the wife likes it warmer.

Like most places on the east coast, we've been crazy warm this fall.
