Second load of aspen in for the night to take the chill off. Really liking it as a shoulder season wood.

it's not terrible out at 9:30pm EST.... it's 55F outside, on it's way to overnight 39F.

After weeks of 'accruing cold soak'(low latent heat) into the structure, tonight begins the battle to regain the comfort warmth....

It's white pine limbs, and yellow pine splits kicking off the burning season officially.

I abhor burning pine. But Hurricane Helene '24 dropped six pines across the yard and driveway.
The biggest was 36" diameter and smallest was 20" diameter.
I got at least ten cords from them all, and that's being modest and conservative estimate.

Heck, I've got probably a whole months worth of limbs to burn.....
not the 10" stuff, the 2" stuff.


At least I don't have to burn the dwindling cords of Red Oak so quickly now...

I’m also burning Aspen tonight and it really took off and offgassed for the first half hour. I had the air shut all the way down to #0. I’m going to have to start mixing in some Oak because this Aspen is too dry and doesn’t last long.

It's sunny and 48 here in Michigan and I'm working from home, so I just tossed a few splits of mixed "shoulder wood" in the stove, to warm the house a few degrees. Perfect time of year to get rid of my less-than-desirables from the wood pile.

First fire of the season! Been a cool day today and just feels chilly in the house. Plan on using it tonight so running it now to make sure everything is good. 1/2 load of ash.

Tossed 3 splits of ash in around 630 to keep things going (earlier fire wasn’t down to coaling yet but was getting close) but still 73 currently in the living room so 8 think I’mgoing to let the stove go out. Only down to 40 tonight. If I add more wood now would stay very warm all night. I’ll guess 66-67 in the morning when I wake up for living room temps and I’ll start it tomorrow morning. House Held heat better than I thought it would today. Have mini splits on in bedrooms only to top things off if needed.

38F degrees here this morning. House is 62F. Two smaller spits of maple to start the morning with a third ready to go after the kindling is done.

66 in the house. 8 splits of ash this morning. Still have a few small coals in the stove, couldn’t believe it, especially with very little ash bed. Used kindling anyway. We’ll be in and out today and last night of camping tonight so we won’t be tonight

5 spruce pieces this am, 29 out with frost on the pumpkin. I’ll run this load hot and it will probably be done around 11. Supposed to be sunny in the 50s today and in the 30s tonight. Will see if an overnight load is warranted.

Cloudy and a high in the upper 40's forecast for today. No real chance for solar heating so first fire of the season here.

Couple of splits of spruce and a maple oddball chunk to start and have a couple more maple chunks to chase out the chill. Should be enough for today. Will be having to bring some more in as it looks like we'll have a few damp and chilly days this week.

My shop stove still has ash in it from spring… I probably should clean it, but the electric heater has been keeping up easily with these mild temps. Maybe today if I finish my wood project, otherwise next week.

Loaded up some ash when we got home a little after boo time. 65 indoor temp.

We had 28.4 this morning with the shoulder season fire not started until after 12. The house was 65 this morning because we didn't burn anything yesterday, we did run the propane fireplace and the furnace for about 10 minutes before I hit the sleeper.

Tonight it's below 31 the last I checked, the basement was 77, the living room 72 and the sleeper at 70. I promised the wife I would use some beech tonight, five splits with two splits of pine for the overnight heat.

Had just enough coals to start this fire without help from the fire late this morning. All ash with 1 piece of silver maple. 35 tonight.

Full load tonight. Mostly cherry with a black ash tunnel cap, then a couple of aspen and pine.

Right at 32 this morning. Still had some overnight embers left from last night. Added some maple and a medium piece of oak to take the edge off.

We had 32.1 this morning, the five splits of beech with a few splits of pine did the trick for the overnight fire. The temps up here was 69 with the basement temp at 73 this morning before the first fire. The first fire was all pine.

28 out this morning; the living room was only 68. Tossed a split of apple and a few pieces of poplar in this morning.

Last night burned about 25 lbs mix of Aspen and Red Oak. Woke up this morning and it was still 75 in here with an outside temp of 35. Should be good till this evening.

29 outside here. Started last nights fire a little later than usual with more hardwood so still had some coals this morning. Mid size load of pine and aspen will do the trick until the sun starts doing it's part.

29 out this am. This was the morning fire. 1 ugly of red oak and the rest spruce. House was up to 75 today so no overnight fire.
