Afternoon reload. Oak, ash and a little maple. Hot one, topped close to 790STT. If it got to 800 I was going to crack the door.

SO, how does 630deg on the Fireview compare to 630deg on the F45?
It’s much more radiant with the Fireview. Those concrete blocks I have around my hearth get much warmer. The Fireview is a better fit for these high ceilings and open floor plan.

It’s going to be around 20 tonight I decided to go with a full load of spruce. I’ll burn a little warmer than if I was loaded with hardwoods.

The uglies of this afternoon are done.
Another airy load of of red oak and maple.
32 outside, going down to 28. Upstairs is 70.

That full load with a chunk of beech no black ash last night sure left a big pile of coals and kept the house warm enough even with the cold. -13 with a real feel of -31. Inside is 68 in the back hall and 69 in the Great Room. Will probably burn mixed bag loads all day and load up with another "no black ash" load overnight.

The 8pm load of spruce from last night went 12 hours it was down to 18 degrees at 7am and house was 70. It’s petered out so another load of spruce in for today.

Just below freezing this morning with a pile of coals from the light load last night. Grabbed a couple of big slits of cherry and I just HAD to burp the stove after it caught for some smoke inside. The wife came out of the bedroom an hour out so later and said the house smells like cherry smoke.

Back to prepping for a party tonight. Maybe this year I can have a fire

Everybody’s home so we all slept in. Late start did not start the stove until 9am. 35 outside now. Bad weather coming in tonight. Oak a maple load with a few cut offs. STT was 675 earlier. House 71 now.

It’s not too cold here; mid 40s in F…but wood heat is cheap heat and we haven’t seen much solar in the past 4 days

Missus asked me to light up the little Spanish box

Mostly Siberian elm and a dollop of chestnut and hazel

Happy cat happy life doesn't rhyme...

I had added 2 oak shorty/uglies and a short maple split on the charred stuff of last night's load around 10 am as I needed to leave the home for rock climbing training of my daughter.
Then a piece of spruce around 4 to burn down some oak coals.
A reload now of red oak.

This was all curved 7" wide halved branch wood that blew out of a tree two years ago. It was already dead then, no bark, sapwood soft and dry.
Split them in half, put them in the stacks.
Mice (I presume) had a blast with the soft sapwood fibers as I found many nests of them.

Put it in now and the remnants sapwood took off immediately with a roar. Lots of empty space though because of the curved pieces.
Heartwood was very hard, bone dry, like it had become rock.
We'll see if it lasts long enough.

39 outside, going down to freezing early morning (and beyond during the day tomorrow). 71 upstairs.

4-6" of snow forecast now from 10 pm to 1 pm tomorrow.
