I am getting a Flame Monaco installed in a few weeks, it's my first wood fireplace. It says it can take up to 21" logs....

Question... Is is advised to cut to the max size, or kick it down a couple inches.?

I have a guy who will cut the logs to whatever size I want, but I'm not sure what size would be optimal for this Firebox?

I wouldn't cut to max length. That's most likely the max length that could possibly fit in. My stove can take a 21" log as well but only 1. You need to put it in at an angle and there isn't room to get another in that long. I really prefer 16-18". When ordering wood I ask for 16 because you will get 18-20" pieces mixed in. It does seem to burn better when there is a little room on the sides and it's easier to get it fully loaded.

I have the flame Monaco and I am going on my 3 full season with it. I personally feel it fires much better if I fill it north/south. I think it is about 15-17 inches.
