I finally finished an old wood stove that is over 70 years old (Sierra) and repainted it and got her ready to go. Then I started pricing the cost to install pipe out of the back of the unit, through the side of my barn and then out side. Wow, I was blown away at the cost to install this stuff! The standard black pipe from the stove to the wall was only $45 at Lowes, then the through the wall kit was $291 of double wall Chimney pipe. I then had to purchase a 12" pipe ($45) to get me clearance of the gutter on the barn and then 4 more 3ft sections of double wall pipe to provide 2-3ft clearance of the highest point of my barn roof. Those 3ft sections cost $75 bucks a piece!. $681 dollars right there and then I needed to purchase some other supplies to finish the job, so I would have over $700 wrapped up in the project pretty easy. I decided to hold off for now as there are a lot of other things I would like to purchase with $700 (new hand gun, new bow, generator......) Does anyone know of any other kits that might be cheaper? I've checked just about everywhere. Menards will save about $40-50.
I also forgot the cost of cement board or sheet metal and spacers to provide heat shields for the unit in my barn. More cost
