I came across this in my internet travels today.

Apparently the gal that owned the car brought it into the shop complaining of a "slight grinding noise" when she stopped.

I'm thinking that the slight grinding noise was probably not much different than a spoon in a garbage disposal!

It finally got louder than her radio.....

That's got to be a joke. That would have made a lot more than a slight grinding noise. I once had a pad delaminate from the backing plate. It made a terrible sound as it started to cut the rotor. I can't imagine the noise, not to mention feel, of wearing the whole way through the outside of the rotor.

Probably didn't stop to well either.

I was at the shop we have our trucks serviced at and a girl came in saying her car just started making noise, that is almost what her rotor looked like. still had a little of the outside still attached.

Just to be fair....I am sure that lots of guys do the same thing

My stepson's brakes would have looked like that if hadn't forced him to buy the parts and let me show him how to replace them. His rotors were only about 1/4" and the pads were down to the steel. made a grinding noise for a few weeks. He probably just turned up the radio a little louder.

I replaced rotor not too far from being in this condition - removed from the GF's car about a month after I met her.
The outer face was still intact but the slots were showing on the face.
