Sooooo, heavy frost advisory issued for tonight. cold front moving down, scattered rain showers with a 20-25 mph NW wind. Temp. dropping to 30 to 32 overnight. Think a small evening "take the chill out" fire is gonna happen this evening. Shorts and uglies pile is going to have a few less members come morning.

The fire looks great, I can't wait to light the first fire of the year! Still pretty warm here in Central Mass but the time is coming.....

same here, southeastern mass...waiting for the chill. Enjoy your "take the chill off" fires Rotti

doing a test/take the chill fire right now. Just couldn't wait any longer, what with all the beeeees stories.
Just had to be sure.

It's going to be in the low 40's tonight and rained hard last night. It's a damp chilly right now outside and it's creeping into the abode. I told the wife that I might fire the stove up tonight for a bit. It's very rare that she gives me poo for a thought that I have, but in this case, it was clear that she was not a fan of that taking place. Guess I'll just use a bit more scotch to warm up ==c

Still pretty warm here in western mass as well, We have been closing the windows at night and that seems to do the trick. We may try some break in fires soon in the new Castine, perhaps next week end but we have been known to have warm weather right up until mid October. May be sunny and low to mid 70's tomorrow. Air is dry and we are enjoying the good weather

I'm waiting for Monday or Tuesday when it's suppose to drop down to highs in the 50's. Just need to figure out which stove to burn.

Where in Ontario are you? Just left yesterday, left lots of vegetables in the garden, sure hope it isn't freesing in Southern Ontario. It was HOT two days ago...

Mid way between Ottawa and North Bay on the Ottawa River just across from Quebec.

Burn the Keystone. Play your cards close to the vest, then when Jack Frost comes knockin' at the door, let the Princess kick his arse...then deride him for letting a girl whup him. ==c

Cleaned two in-law chimbleys today. We're ready but I wouldn't mind a long Fall...

It is about time to start burning here as well i cant wait. Got good wood this year so i am ready.

Rottiman, you just want to warm up those new joints you have. How is the healing doing?

I see we'll be in the 30's this week too. No frost yet though.

SWMBO is feeling sickly and cold and decided that I shall build her a fire. Who am I to argue? Plus I just re-painted it yesterday and want to burn off the paint fumes.

I just had our first fire of the year. I cleaned the stack today, inspected the stovepipe and went through the stove. Got a fire going and filled it enough to get good secondaries for about an hour. Cleaned out the blower, and declared the stove good for the season.

All is good Dennis, started back to work this past week, so far so good. Hows Mrs. savage fairing?

If you believe the WeatherBug forecast, I should have been burning yesterday, though to drop that much not sure anything would be standing anyway.

If things run as usual I will be holding out trying to make it into November but will end up firing one off after mid-October.

We very well may have our first fire tomorrow night or Wednesday morning. Rain followed by 30's might put a chill into the house.

Same. Every year I look at the seasonal averages for the days of October and November and think; gee, I should easily be able to hold out until November... Then comes the second week of October and I have a stove going.

We will see here. We are expecting a strong cold front tomorrow, with storms, and quite a few hours of 30 mph sustained winds gusting to 55mph with lows in the upper 40's. Not quite cool enough, but adding in those winds and an itch I need to scratch, maybe

We live in the Houston area and they say we will get down to the mid 50’s Thursday and the wife loves the insert so I may build the first fire this season.
