A little tree work around the house.

Got a guy coming out to remove some trees from around my house. Mostly good sized oaks with a couple big pines mixed in. I should end up with a pretty decent haul out of it once I'm done cleaning it all up.

These are the before pictures. Tree guy is coming out next week to take them down. Anything marked with an orange dot is getting cut.

This one kind of gives an idea of the height of these. I would estimate an easy 75ft up.



Both of these pictures are of the same trees just from opposite sides. These are all just as tall as the ones in the first pic. Should have had my camera turned to portrait.

That will be convenient for you cutting at your house and splitting right there, if that is the case. You should have a decent amount of wood there..

nice. i did a ton of treework around my house, and then spent a long time cleaning it up. knowing what I know now, I would have taken a slightly different approach.....

It's not that bad cleaning it up. I've cut around 50 trees around my house since I bought it, and it is a lot of work but very rewarding.

It beats paying someone to do it, and I end up with a season or so worth of firewood in the end.

You'll sleep better. After seeing what tropical storm Sandy (wasn't even a hurricane when it hit CT) did to large white pines, I'll never have big ones near my house. Also, nothing with any evidence of ants in it.

Tree guy came today and left me a big mess to clean up. Should keep me in fire wood for a couple years. Will look nice once it's all done.

Looks good. Did that near tree in pictures 2 and 3 kick out really hard, or did they drag it into the yard a bit with the tractor?

It got dragged with the winch on the tractor. It landed right across my driveway.

Looks like you will stay busy for a little. Now that they are down you have to feel a lot better. I did some tree trimming couple months ago on my large maple and my neighbors oak, clearing the branches overhanging the house. It's a great feeling when they are down.

It does feel good. It's a little dicey sometimes having big heavy hardwood trees hanging over the house and power lines.

This is the second time I've hired this guy to drop trees around my house and he did a great job both times. Very reasonable price and was done in about 2 hours.

Now you can cut at your leisure, plus a nice amount of firewood.

Nice little haul there. I have about 2 dozen trees around my house I am looking to take down but will need a professional to drop them. Widowmakers & house-remodelers if you are not careful or skilled...I am careful but not that skilled.

Indeed. I've been running out in the morning while the ground is hard if I want to do anything in the yard or woods. By 9:00 it's a pudding-fest...

My property is the highest point for a few miles in every direction. Lots of ledge and rock.

Still a few soft spots here and there.

Just curious how much that cost you? I have 2 medium sized trees (one poplar and one maple) that are close to my house that I'm not so comfortable dropping myself. How much per tree?

I was charged $500.

You will get wild varying estimates from tree companies. Call a bunch of them.

I've got quite the pile of rounds going from the trees I had brought down. Two piles now actually. The stacks in the middle is between 5-6 cords for size reference. I let someone come and cut off the pile of trees for a Saturday in exchange for some fill material, and I still have roughly 1/4 of it left to cut up.

Should be some fun splitting.

Haha yeah there are two big pine trees there. My 20 inch bar doesn't make it all the way through on one pass on the trunk. The rest of everything is straight oak so I don't mind to much.

I'll just mix the pine in with everything else. It's great for shoulder season or getting a nearly out stove going again.
