Any stoves from big box to consider?

Im in love who the englander 30. It's probably one of the best bangs for the buck out there and from what I can tell, their customer service is top notch.

I opted personally for an insert but if I could have done free standing, if would have been an englander stove hands down.

The 30-NC, damnit it ain't NC-30 (wanted to say that for years ), is happiest with splits under 19". Yeah you can put 20" in it for E/W but 19" is the max N/W because of the air distribution plate at the front. 18" inch or under is best for E/W because you get a better burn with some air space between the ends and the bricks.

I cut everything for it to 18" max and burn everything N/W. 16" is my favorite but the saw wanders sometimes. Stupid saw.

As an experienced NC-30 30-NC owner/operator, what do you think of the OP's situation? I'm thinking it's too much, but he wants long burn times.

Don't know the size of that basement or if it is finished/insulated or not but any heating from the basement that is gonna get heat upstairs is gonna need the 30's firepower.

Better advice available when we know the basement details.

The other thing to note is that he already has an insert on the main floor, but he wants a little more heat up there.

I wondered if it was to much also but figured I could build smaller fires while occupying the basement and stack it up when heading to bed. My basement is 3/4 way finished with an opening about 6 ft wide headed to the storage/laundry/utility room. The finished parts are drywall and tile floor rough estimate on finished section is 45x20
