Good afternoon,

I had a chimney person come out awhile back and install a 6 inch liner into my chimney. My chimney is 19"x19" square, the liner is the 6" round. The cap he put in is round also, attached to the liner, and has a square base which doesn't exactly fit over my chimney top (looks pretty bad). My question is, can I replace this cap with a 20"x20" square and just place it over/around the chimney, or do caps need to be attached to the liner? Thanks a bunch!

John

The liner should be secured to the cap base with a clamp. This keeps the liner from falling any. Mine is almost hidden in the base. I had to look real hard to find it.
