Biolite FirePit?

I just stumbled upon an advertisement today (United MileagePlus) for the Biolite FirePit.

Has anybody tried it yet? I've heard some complaints that the Solo fire pits aren't very radiant with their heat. Pictures online suggest the Biolite fire pit might be more radiant, albeit probably not as durable.

It uses a draft fan which I dislike. The solo units probably do push more heat up than out, but I think that's the case with all fire pits. At least the solo stoves have a fairly large stainless body that radiates heat.

REI has several (22) user reviews. The reviews about the Biolite FirePit say that it's nice for a grill and cooking, but not as smokeless as the Solo and some say not as radiant. Others say it heats well. There are complaints about quality and very poor or no support from some reviewers.

The biolite products seem like a gimmick to me. How many times have you needed to charge your phone while next to a camp fire and didn't have access to a car?

The whole "there's an app" as a marketing feature has gone amuk. Many of these apps are pretty useless or just communicate something obvious. There'll be an app for your razor pretty soon.

Yep, my Sous Vide wand (cooking gadget that heats water to very specific temps to cooks steaks in bags to precise temps) has an app. You literally just set it to a specific temp and let it sit for a couple hours. Why would you need to control that from a phone? The app is the only source of bad reviews for the product on amazon.
