I verified chimney and cap are good to go, no issues there. To answer a previous question, the amount of ash from last year when I cleaned was fairly small - the stove is amazingly efficient. I just reinstalled the cat with a new gasket. So we’ll see what happens, but my plan is to just deal with it for the rest of the season and go to double wall pipe sometime before next season. I don’t think there’s anything left to troubleshoot/do other than blame the single wall for weak draft if the smoking happens again.

How tall is your chimney in total? Stove pipe and chimney pipe from stove top to the cap? I think it was asked earlier, but I don't see the answer.

I'm glad you got the gasket taken care of and the chimney and cap checked out. Did you ever figure out whether there was an appliance competing for air like a heat pump kicking on as the burn was winding down?

Also, how high is the top of the chimney above the roof? Does it meet the 3-2-10 rule?

There wasn’t an appliance competing that I know of. The chimney does meet 3-2-10 rule. I probably poorly estimated, maybe it’s more like 25’
