Buck model 91 ( went 325 miles round trip to get )

I been wanting one for a while to replace my Appalichian 52 Bay. Label date made on the back of stove is marked Sept 2014. Here is a couple of pictures. Clear picture was made in Knoxville just before loading on trailor. Darker picture after I brought it in the house.

craigslist for twelve hundred.The owner was moving and not taking it with him. It sure looks to be in nice condition. None of the firebrick cracked .Fan runs smooth, dollor bill check around door good. I will propably drop the heat shield today and check the combuster. The only thing I dont like is the owner had put something on top that has left a round spot stain on it. I might try to remove it but you want be able to see it because I will have as an insert. Fast how was the first year with your 91 ? Ive always like the buck stove. Use to have a 26000 model. Good little stove but had to keep feeding it. My son has the model 80 which I really
like and been looking for a good used one to come up for sale and now this 91 just happen to fall in place.

I just installed mine about 7-8 weeks ago. Did my break in fires outside... Ive only had one small fire to cure the sealer for the pipe ( It was hotter & lasted longer than I expected ) Like you, I have heated with a Buck 27000 for the last 14 yrs. The wife was tired of getting up in the night to feed it so I got the Buck 91. I can hardly wait till winter

My local hardware store is a Buck Dealer. I've been in there mulling them over several times. I think you'll be happy with it. They have one of the best reputations in this area for wood stoves. Nobody around here says "wood stove". Everyone says "Buck stove" no matter what brand they are looking at. They are built like tanks. Quality products, that's for sure.

How did you break down your serial # to get 4-14?? Mine is 91 020661, can I assume mine was made in 06??? in Black sharpie it says Jan 07 or 09 (cant really tell) anyone know how to read the #'s??

Nothing at all wrong with my 52 Bay. Very good stove. Get the long burn times. I've just heard so many good reviews about the model 91 and just couldn't pass up on this one. I had to go back and edit the manufactured date from April 2014 to Sept 2014. So its a few months newer. Yes Mellow we got our Appalachian 52 close to the same time. We passed along alot of info and you helped me alot. I'll keep you up on the 91 this winter. The 52 will stay covered up in the shop until the 91 moves in for good.

Great deal on a good stove! You'll love it. Mine was $1000, but five years old. Sadly, my MIL passed earlier this year so the fate of the mighty Buck is uncertain. I told the realtor that I would pull it if the buyer doesn't want to burn wood. I'm sure I could find it a good home.

Haven't had a chance to do anything with my Buck 91 until today. After I pulled my other insert out I had Roxul stuffed up around the damper but this time around I wanted to put a blockoff plate in and pack it good with more Roxul. Got it sealed in now and now I was ready to put insert in. I come across the handyest thing to rent for raising it up on the hearth . This stove weighs in at 625 lbs and my hearth is 14 inchs high. I put some sheetmetal on top then slid the insert pretty easy in place. My son was going to help me with it tomorrrow but I couldn't wait. I just had to go ahead with it by myself. Anyway here is a couple of pictures of my work today. My wife really likes the way the insert comes out on the hearth 15 inchs. Work done and cant wait to try it out.

Looks great! I just installed a Buck 94 NC which is the 91 with burn tubes instead of cat.
I am also eagerly awaiting colder weather to see how well it works.
We'll have to compare notes once we get into 24/7 burning.

Whats the red sealer around the edge of the Block Off Plate??? I may need to do my edge too...

Its call fire barrier sealant. I was looking for something to seal around the edge just to fill in any cracks. I saw another blockoff plate like that on this site so just thought I would try mine that way. It dries into a hard rubber like seal.

You are going to have to get used to the door opening the opposite way.

Are you going to put a non-combustible mat on the floor in front?

Yea I've been use to the door handle on the left side for awhile. That large crock is always been on that heart and I keep a a small amount of wood in that. Right there I don't have to reach around the door to put wood in. My wife will find some type of mat she likes in front of the hearth. On the floor at the hearth the brick extends 18 inchs out so the stove is a pretty good distant from the floor. Now that you mentioned it I measured it and the bottom tip of the stove is 28 inchs from the wood floor.

Just thought I would drag up an old thread and let you know how its working. This is one fine stove. Burns great and enjoy the deep firebox. This a big plus for most of the time I load N/S . I didn't care for the reosat fan motor so I changed it out to a 3 speed. What a differance this made. Fan is so quite and no motor hum at all. In fact you cant hardly hear it running at all on low.
I never had any problems with my original fan but it was a little change I thought would be better.The 3 speed switch is mounted right where the reosat knob was. I have been wanting to do this for a few weeks. Just got a warm spell over the last few days so perfect time now. Cold weather comes back in the forcast after tomorrow.

Yeah, we are getting off pretty easy this winter. I trust the 91 did well for you during those couple of cold snaps we had? Like you said, a few cool nights coming up now...I've only been loading once a day for the last few.
