I picked this Homelite saw with a 48" bar for $200 Saturday. It fires up on two or three pulls, I'm not seeing any numbers on it, can someone help me out?

It looks like it may predate arabic numerals!;lol

48" bar - is that for long distance cutting?

Not much real help, but it looks somewhat similar (in looks and era) to the vintage 1969 Sears that my father gave me.

Looks kinda like a Homelite C9. (broken link removed to http://www.bigdmc.com/c-9-restored.html)

I was going to say it looked like a 1050 super.

From my research the 1130's have a gear box on the right side for the long bars. The 1050's have an automatic oiler. The C9 has a cut out on the left side rope pull case.

1050s have an auto oiler with a manual backup for extra oil when running long bars. Yours has the muffler cover that isnt broken, thats a pretty rare piece all by itself!

I don't think the C9's were rated for that big of a bar. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but just pointing it out.

I'm finding that some of the 1050's have a throttle lock also, not sure if it's a 1050 Super/XL?

Yours does look like this one, without the chain brake, and yours has the full wrap handle.

Hmmm, If you wanted to post at the HoH site, or in the "Homelite" sticky over at ArboristSite, someone there can probably pick it out instantly. Im not that good at figuring the old ones out at all...

It's all good, I'm thinking the Super model has the throttle lock but we'll see. Thanks

I'm guessing someone painted this saw, as I've never seen a yellow Homelite. Maybe they wanted a McCulloch, who knows? Up on the air cleaner / carb box is where the nameplate should be, painted over ? Maybe?

I was thinking it might be an old forest service saw, or something along those lines. You can see some of the red under the yellow/green in a few of the pics.

Looks like an old McCulloch I have. I think it's a 440.

Might be a good guess if the top plate wasn't clearly cast with Homelite on it.:p

Edit: I would love to hear that thing bark when it starts chewing on some wood.

It's all red on the inside, I'll post some video when my internet comes back on line.

Ha Ha, home internet is out for some reason, we think someone is stealing our band width.
