Here is a picture of my old 1/2 ratchet. I loaned it out and now it's broken (or I broke it, not sure).
I took it apart and the little toggle gear was broken. It would not change direction. I somehow got
it going, but it didn't last. I looked up the warranty and it said lifetime replacement. I went to
a couple of stores to see if they would replace it but they didn't carry it.
I emailed the support and they were great. They are shipping me a new one. I bought a cheap one
off Amazon that will be here soon and will then have 2. Not all items have the same warranty but for
hand tools it might be lifetime. I had no idea how old it was, or a receipt. When it asked for a receipt
I just sent the picture.

This x2! I’ve had trouble with Ace Hardware (actually never had success), but with Lowe’s it depends on the person (my success rate is lower than 99%… probably closer to 75%).

Another option is to email Craftsman through their website. It’s slow; but I’ve had success that way as well.

Where I lived we had a separate Sears Tool building with it's own parking. Many tools were on sale.
I bought a 19.2V Diehard Impact Drill there with two batteries. The batteries were chit, probably NiCad
and both died. I found a battery adapter on Amazon or some other site that takes my Makita 18V and I'm
still using it. I even bought a big battery and charger for it (knock offs) and they work great.

You would call or do a web form. Enjoy.

From what I was told at Lowe's about them buying Craftsman the actual tool quality isn't the same although it is much better than a lot of the junk out there now. They "got the name and the color red" If you can manage to keep your old stuff and get repair parts you will be ahead of the game

Yea, I think there’s a time window on that. The ratchets I recently replaced were complete crap 2000s vintage, and they swapped out a nicer fine tooth count ratchet in place of it. The older stuff does feel better in hand.

It’s sort of a shame; craftsman sort of left their customers and HF stepped right up (and surpassed). Unless the seriously step up/ continue to improve I’ll replace the craftsman stuff I have, but will be buying new tools from somewhere else.

I've historically only used HF as a buy it cheap and use it once before it breaks kinda tool. The guy I'm training to take over when I retire twists wrenches. He has heavy diesel tolls on down and does auto repair in the evenings. He has his travel kit set with HF Icon stuff and swears by it. He's been with me for 2 years now and nothing of his has broken and we do some demanding work.

Hot tip on Icon. They make a lock blade knife that is well worth the 40 bucks. He had one for a year and it's still GTG. I got one because in the woods here at home I've had 2 Kershaw's stripped out of my pocket and I got tired of losing expensive knives. Good steel in the blade and a solid clip. I wouldn't trust the lock for.....heavy stabbing but that's not it's for.

HF might be similar to our Princess Auto? 2 year warranty on everything they sell. Hopefully HF was better quality products though as PA is mostly cheap Chinese stuff. Sometimes it's too good a deal to pass up even if it's cheap.

Probably close. All chicom stuff on the cheap. They do have, I think, 3 lines. On junk mid line stuff not bad and the Icon line seems solid. Warranty on all with no questions asked. It's cheap to extend the warranty so just inside warranty time take it back for " it's not working right" and they replace it.

Some stuff is really good though. They got into some crap with snap on because a floor jack they had was made by the same maker as theirs and was identical except for color for a BUNCH less money.
