Pretty early to predict, but I think they'll be lower than last winter. Diesel is 2/3 of what it was this time last year, heating oil will be similar.

Barring major world crisis, my guess is lower than last winter, but I really do not care as I have 2 years of wood and wood boiler plus a plug in hybrid car.

Control what you can, like firewood put up and home insulation. Try not to worry about what you can't, like commodities prices.

Futures markets have been dropping. I’d bet 50$ that’s it’s lower. I think it’s a safe bet. How much lower?? That’s hard to say. OPEC+ will keep prices from dropping too far. I’d look out for more production cuts if oil prices drop below $60-65 a barrel. Natural gas I think will be more volatile.

Iran has seized 3 oil tankers recently. As they gain confidence, do you think they'll stop doing this?

If so, do you have your firewood ready?, so you can care less bout it. Home heating oil for this winter
If you did't have your firewood ready for coming winter last year, you should worry about oil prices indeed...

My wood dries for three years before I burn it.

In February, I paid $3.67 for 150 gallons. Still have170 gallons in the tank. I added an80 gallon hybrid/ heat pump HWH in the fall.

The electric bill went up $20 a month, but I'm not burning 1/2 a gallon of oil a day for HW. Added an energy efficient oil burner (new to me, but it was free ;) ). Oil consumption for heating the apartment & HW dropped from2 gallons a day to 3/4 in the coldest temps this past winter.

You might want to keep that Grant in your pocket.

The kids will miss that McDonalds dinner, I won’t. I missed the price by 10$ a barrel;) This cut doesn’t worry me like one in October would. I’m guessing prices we are seeing now are OPECs floor. The possibility of recession that many are discussing I think is driving this and many decisions.

Hope you all bought your heating oil. With oil prices on the way up heating oil will follow.

Diesel prices are up here already as heating season nears with demand increasing.

Just called on October 6, 2023 and it was $3.89gal locally here.

I’m 3/4 full…been there since 2021, and no desire to fill up with 100 gallon minimum which is about what it would take to fill it.

Geez, better be getting at least 100 gallons. Almost worth filling Jerry cans to get into that lower price tier.

I topped off in August, took 100 gallons @ $3.40 per.

Last year my 25 YO oil burner crapped out the beginning of November. Luckily I work for a company doing heat pump conversions / installs in NYC & Long Island. One of Con Ed's (NYC electric company) requirements is that if you do the upgrade, your oil / gas system has to be decommissioned and / or removed. I lucked into an 8 year old energy efficient oil burner for free (due to the guys @ work looking our for me ;)) in pristine condition , as well as a hybrid 80 gal AO Smith HWH, for free :) Just had to pay for install. Oil was used for HW and heating the accessory apartment, with the old burner 1/2 gallon a day for HW, 2.5 gallons total a day for heat & HW when temps dropped below 20F. New burner uses 1 gallon a day for the same temps. Electric bill (hybrid is on economy) went up $20 a month.

The PE handles the whole house heat wise until temps drop to 30 - 35F, then the OB kicks in (Tenant is uncomfortable with the 13, so I don't push it. I also have to tell her to turn the heat up from her normal 62F when it gets really cold. I'd rather pay the oil man than the plumber <> )

Win/win for me !

Future oil prices are in flux with the present uncertainty in the middle-east.
