Door Gasket Question

gonna get the stove ready for burning here soon. the door gasket doesn't pass the dollar bill test so i'm going to change it. I want to use high temp silicone this time instead of gasket cement. with the gasket cement i'd put it in and shut the door and let it set up. do you do the same with the silicone or do you let it cure with it open?

Before you change the gasket, see if the door latch can be adjusted. If not, then yes, silicone, set gasket, close door for 24 hours. Good to go. Make sure you clean the door surface real well where the silicone will be applied. Rubbing alcohol, brake cleaner, etc, work well.

no adjustment on the latch sadly. took a wire wheel on the cordless to the groove and cleaned it out nice, good tip on the rubbing alcohol thanks.

Either way. You are using the silicone as an adhesive. The rope is acting as the gasket. You want good silicone to rope contact all around.
