Whatever kind of wood this is,it splits easy, lights up quick, pulls apart in long strips.Perfect for startup.Wood ID please. Thanks!

I burned about a cord of wood similar to this last winter. Figured it was either Catalpa or Sassafrass.

It acts kinda like pine when its burning(lots of snaps and cracks). The grain is kind of iridescent coffee colored.Plenty of black ants in it when i split it.It peels apart in layers when you split it.Very clean split
Perfect for kindling-you can light it with a match lol.
If i had a wheelbarrel load,i could make kindling for years.
A friend gave it to me off of an old lot that was once a horse farm.

Not sassafras. Sassafras is very heavy and hard to split.

Mine was growing in a gully were we dump stuff. I had never cut anything like it and was just intrigued. Woody stover actually told me what this was. It is a great source of kindling
