This will be my first full winter burning wood and I decided that I didn't want to deal with pallets and tarps. I have no idea how much wood I'll burn in a winter and my plans started off small and worked up to 8'x16'. Bigger is better right?

I just looked through hundreds of pictures on google for the design I wanted then made my own plans from there. All built myself.
it's 8x16x6 so if I fill it to the brim I figure it's about 6 cords. Probably overkill but if so then I can leave some space and park my lawn mower in there or something. Or just have wood for 2-3 years. I'm only heating 1000 square feet plus whatever I use for my shop when I'm working out there.

That's a great shed! I have one the same size. Consider putting a narrow divider in the centre (front to back). It allows you too remove wood from one side if you wish and keeps the rows more stable! I left mine open on the back as well so I can remove wood from both sides

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually planned on doing that with some leftover 2x6's before I start stacking wood.
Yeah it wasn't cheap but I figure it looks nice and will last a long time so it's worth it. I just like building stuff honestly. It's kind of a hobby. I tell my friends if they want something built, buy the wood and I'll come over and help. Next year I'll probably rebuild and update my pump house.
That's a great looking wood shed. Would you mind sharing your drawing? If not I completely understand. I love the idea of a solid floor that is raised up that does not require any digging. I live in an area called "ringing rocks" so if the name tells you anything digging is not a easy option on my property.
great job! I had back to back hailstorms the last 2 summers that has kept us busy lining up repairs and doing some ourselves. Good news is I will have plenty of slightly dented barn steel for a wood shed too. Yours will be much prettier though

That's a good question. I always envision projects that I start to take less time and money than they actually do. And the cost is always spread out over several trips to the hardware store. I'll go back and look through receipts to try to get a rough estimate.

This is just what I did and there's always ways to save money by doing things differently. Roofing for one. I used high end shingles because I wanted it to match my shop and my house. You could use cheap shingles or metal roofing, OSB instead of ply, used motor oil instead of wood waterproofer, nails instead of strews, etc etc.
Rough estimate and breakdown:
Lumber base – $277.39
2x6x16 – 17 = $152.66
2x6x8 – 9 = $40.23
4x4x8 pressure treated – 4 = $36.68
foundation blocks – 6 = $47.82
Lumber Shed – $191.70
2x6x8 – 9 = $40.23
4x4x12 – 3 = $40.59
4x4x8 – 12 = $110.88

4x8x1/2” ply – 7 = $149.45

whats wrong with you?? thats wayyyy to nice to use for wood. I'd set up a few lawn chairs, small table and a cooler and go from there.
