Lit all of those popcorn bags, pizza boxes, KFC cups, and threw some Southern Yellow Pine 2x8's from a school bleacher demo this summer. Quadrafire in the LR, not the boiler. Some quick heat as it's been in the low 50s for a few days here and the house was down to 65.............Now it's 80, and I can't seem to get off the couch:cool:

I's burned down now, not really pic worthy...........................

Anyone else burned yet?

I thought about it yesterday as it didn't get above 14c/57f but I decided on the furnace instead. The kids were having a sleep over and I didn't want to cook them out of the rec room. The forecast is for warm weather here and high pressure for the upcoming week so it will be a bit for me yet. We had frost a few times last week but that has passed for now. I dealt with my habit by processing wood in the rain today instead.

Lit the stove at my camp last week when it got down in the 40's. It will probably be October before I light the stove at home.

Sean, that animal in your avatar is beautiful. What species is it?

House was 64-66 degrees yesterday . . . I was tempted . . . but I am holding out for a bit longer.

Even though it looks like a cool damp week on the way, I'll wait for another month to light up.
For now I'll keep processing for the next few years heat loads.

Too warm here still, but our first fire will also be the official cremation event of this poor chap who had the misfortune of stranding himself sometime this summer and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Services to be announced.

Hi Trooper. This is Tundra our 5 year old female Siberian Husky. Its hard to see in the picture but she has one blue and one brown eye. We picked her up from a local sled dog company when she was a pup. Shes a great family dog with high energy, friendly disposition and the unending desire to run. She sleeps outside but we do bring her in when the weather gets below -30c. The wife says so.:)

What the..? I was freaking when my insert was full of flies. Apparently, crawling down the flue is attractive to lots of critters. I'm going to cover the chimney cap next year.

My burn season officially started today. Temperature was in the 5c/41F this morning, and the house was down to 68F, and the wife was complaining. I didn`t need to be begged to start a fire in the Jotul. House is now at 72C and climbing....God, I missed that comforting heat!

House this morning broke 70 for the first time in ages... outside actually felt cool. I have to admit it is tempting, but I don't seriously expect my first burn to be until next month. In 2012 it was Oct 3, in 2011 it was Oct 6. 24/7 burning should not be until November really... Then again - we never know :)

I'm eager to burn just like every year. Odd, I'd think that it would get old - guess not. Then again, I'm not really looking forward to bringing wood in every day - perhaps this is the year the kids will do more of it, maybe not.

There may be plenty of folks thinking about fires by the coming weekend. A nice cold front is to move in and it will certainly be welcome here after the next two hot days we are forecast.
