I dug out all my fuel oil receipts since January of '02 and we paid $0.94 per gallon for #2 fuel oil back then. I made up a detailed spreadsheet to see all the numbers and below is only an overview of our usage/costs to date.
Tomorrow is my big day. I'll be purchasing my Quadra-Fire Castile (free-standing) with all the venting/accessories I need. I'll be using this stove to heat right at 40% (820 sq.ft. out of 2150 sq.ft) of our floor plan which should save us a few dollars on the oil bill. Fuel oil in my area is right at $4.709 per gallon today and who knows where it will be in September, October.
I can only guess that by using the pellet stove to heat 40% of my house, that it should save me approximately 40% in fuel oil costs, less the cost of 3-tons of pellets for $792.00 delivered. I'm also only guessing that 3-tons of pellets should last me through next winter. Our house is very well insulated (all exterior walls 2"x6" - R19) good Anderson windows and doors and fairly tight.
I'll pick up the stove tomorrow, but won't be installing it for some time.
