I found a really nice hop hornbeam log today. Roughly 1/10 of a cord in total. It was a recent deadfall, nearly bark free, feels dry to the touch.

From chimneysweeponline, this should give about 2.6 million BTU. With my current cost of propane (~2.20/gal) I think I just saved a good $60 on one tree that will take me about 60 minutes to process.

$60 an hour comes to $120k a year... Oh yeah!

Yeah but if your using a normal fireplace it's only around 10% efficient so you won't receive much of the btu's produced . In a wood stove however you'll receive 50% -85% depending on the stove

I'm sticking with $120k a year. The stove's efficiency loss will be 'taken out in taxes.'

Yea I just meant that In a normal fireplace it's practically nothing if you have a stove though it is worth it.

I couldn't resist... Made a small fire with splits from a 7 inch scrap. It lit immediately, shows no smoke outside, and sounds nearly dry... Only a few crackles here and there. And yes, it is in a dastardly insert.

You could also include the savings from not going to the gym for an hour a day, and, remember, this is after tax money so maybe your up to 250k per year?
