How many 8" split pieces of wood can the Blaze King 40 hold?

Wondering how many 8" split pieces the King 40 can hold going from left to right at 22" wood length? I may be asking this question a bit late as I'm already waiting for an estimate to be emailed to me for the Blaze King 40, new 8" Class A chimney and for the labor.

The reason for asking is whether I should continue using my outdoor wood boiler (non gassified) or look into a high efficiency wood stove. I'd like to compare my wood boiler vs wood stove. For instance, on a day when outdoor temps are in the mid 20's F, I'd throw in 3-4 8" split pieces for the day and night when temps are in the teens F, I'd throw in around 8 pieces of 8" splits which would last me 14 - 16 hours. I go through 8 full cords of oak in a winter and use LP in the shoulder months.

I'm no stranger to wood heat, (last 40 years and brought up with wood heat).

I went from 12-20 cords a year in my OWB to 4 average in my King..
Your wood needs to be DRY,, you also should have a proper chimney system for any newer high efficiency stove-also the BK burns much better loaded N/S vs. E/W…

That's very impressive using that much less wood with the BK, had no idea.
I always keep 2 - 3 year supply of cut & stacked oak fire wood on hand.
Here is a snap shot I took this afternoon of my current woodpile, 29 cords left pus 11 cords of oak logs I had delivered last Fall, some of it buried in the snow in front and the rest behind my woodpile.

I am planning to have a new 8" Class A chimney installed from my BK dealer, his crew will get everything set up correctly. I'm still trying to get over the shock of the total estimate, King 40 pedestal stove, chimney and labor costs.

Not sure what you're estimate is, but I'm having a Lopi endeavor installed end of the next month. Total price is 8k. Stove was 3200. Hearth pad and riser about a 1K, rest is pipe and labor. It's a simple install to, just straight up poking through the roof.

I see from another thread that you’re moving ahead with the BK, I’d top cover some of the wood that you’re planning to use next winter..

With my OWB firewood, I cover the amount of wood that I usually need with a heavy breathable tarp that is water resistant, I do this in October and leave it on until spring.
I also throw a months worth of firewood into my wood shed where my OWB is.

For the wood stove, I'll do the same with the addition of piling 1/2 a cord of firewood inside my garage beginning of September to keep it out of the rain to start off, then I'll begin throwing a months supply of firewood down the wood chute into the basement each month as I was doing when I had my indoor wood furnace prior to 2000.

You need to get a cover built over the wood pile.....You will vastly improve the quality of the fuel if you do so....
