Had my tree service contact call me today and offer me some red oak which I'm always happy to get but I got home and it's a ton more then the smaller maybe 3 or 4 pick up load he normally drops off. Doesn't look like much but there is another pile behind me almost as large and the pile at the end is taller then my wife.

So here I am in North Georgia with the temps in the low 90 with probably close to two cords of wood.... good problem to have I suppose but I would have rather have it show up in October!

[Hearth.com] I am so conflicted. ..

So am I happy that I have it or mad that it showed up in the dead of summer?

Sometimes you got to take care of business when business needs being taken care of! Yes, it is more pleasant working up a load of wood in cool weather, but you can't look a gift horse in the mouth! The wood up near the house looks like a lot of it is of a size you can just cut it to length and won't need to split it. The big stuff is just going to take some time. The pieces look like they are cut fairly short, so that should make splitting easy. The biggest stuff is already broken up pretty nice for you.

Tell him you know a guy in NC that will take it any time :)

Wow! I've never had anyone offer me oak. Maybe some free box elder>>. Put a couple of sweat bands on and go to it. I see your point though. Plus right on the front lawn.!!!

My wife wood be pissed if that showed up on the front lawn........
But a great score none the less, time to start working.....

Yep, knock out the low-hanging fruit first and you'll have it under control in short order. Oak is good! ::-)

That looks like morning wood to me! 6 am when it's cool, an X27, and just split on the ground. I find that I can use to X27 to roll and stand up rounds. Just split them on the ground and handle them as little as possible. Lockhart Firewood Grippers help a lot too.

You are happy! Mostly bucked, manageable sizes, delivered! You are happy!
You must have called the tree service and asked for it at one point. You just received. You are happy! It doesn't get much better. Half of the work is done.

Called the guy back yesterday and talked to him for a bit. I found out the wood was three red oaks he took down around the corner from me. He said it took him 2 full loads in his big chip truck to get them to me.

The neighbors said it shook their house when he dropped it on the drive way.

I'll come down and help you but you have to buy the beer!;)

Got plenty of GOOD beer but something tells me there would be more sitting and sipping then working!

The wife is pretty easy going...Thats why I married her plus it been so dry this summer all the grass I seeded and had looking nice is nearly dead. Any time she thinks about complaining I just remind her our power bills usually run 45-50 dollars a month in the winter.
