I come across wood hoarders all the time driving around so much and I am often very jealous. This guy must have been sick of people of asking to buy some. Signs say "NO Wood For Sale" [Hearth.com] I think he got sick of people asking.

All around his property, probably 25-30 alot looks green.

That is a nice stash. People really don't seem to understand when it comes to firewood. Everyone thinks that we're in a contest, like whoever has the most wood wins. When in reality, this is the only way to have good, dry wood when you need it.

Pardon my noob question but, how long until stacked wood starts to deteriorate? I'm not familiar with the weather in Newfoundland but he must have 5+ years worth, no?

Keep it dry and it will never rot. He should therefore top-cover them at some point - preferentially at the beginning of fall.

Interesting. So, hypothetically, a properly manages stack could be good for a decade or more without any loss in BTU value?

Once dry, you can put wood into a shed/barn and it will keep its BTUs for decades. The lumber in your walls will burn great even after a 100 years.

We have a short summer but mostly only Spruce and Birch to burn. A summer on that and it is good to go. Was thinking that maybe he was processing for a whole family but the way it is stacked in his yard it seems to all his. Good for 5-6 years at least, not a big home.

hard to tell from the photos, but I'd say there may be more than 30 cords. I have 26 or so right now and will be close to 30 pretty quick. Mine is scattered around though so it doesn't look like a huge amount unlike these photos.

You may be right, he had a bunch of 8' long stuff still uncut and a bunch split and tossed in a pile. Best I have seen so far, lol.

Jealous.......

Oh, I thought if you let firewood sit for three years it will rot;lol. I guess his looks like its for sale because he has a fence around it.

I've seen yours JR and you have a good amount. It's a good security blanket type thing, throw the longest, coldest winter at us with gas prices tripled and we will be cozy warm and ready for the next winter too.

The fence is for the 99% that believe no one should have that much of anything .
