anybody know what these little guys are? Do they pose a threat to my wood pile? Also, can someone confirm the type of wood?

No threat to your pile, they are a sub species of the order "crispy" once your throw that wood in your stove. I have some Ash that is loaded with sugar ants. I'm going to leave them in the cold until it's time to do a hot re-load.
