After the winter season is over and I have cleaned the inside of the stove and the chimney, should I keep the stove door fully closed until the next winter season, or should I leave the door slightly open? If I keep the door fully closed, will the gasket be continuously compressed for a long period of time and lose its sealing effectiveness? If I leave the door slightly open, will moisture during the summer cause damage inside the stove? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you!

If one is worried about gasket rusting to the frame I’m not sure the best course. The less airflow the less oxidation in the stove so air control and door closed. I capped the top of the liner one year and was advised it may not be the best idea. Now I have a whole house dehumidifier I’m much less concerned about moisture. My plan was cap the top and a bucket of damp rid in the stove close door and air.

The door gasket will compress over time. It’s a wear item and needs periodic replacement.
