When I left for work today, a tree crew had one lane of the road blocked and they were just finishing up with a very large big leaf maple. This was less than 200 yards from my driveway. I stopped and asked if they needed a place to dump the large truck load of rounds. All I had to do was write my address down for them.
I sent my girlfriend a text to let her know and two minutes later got a reply saying, "they're here!" A few minutes after that she sent another text that said, "you have a lot of splitting to do."
I can't wait to get home and see how much is there.

Sounds like you won the lottery! Nice job, now get to work. :)

what a great way to start a workday! Can't much better than that.

Holy crap, in 40 years of burning wood, I have run into some pretty good deals, but nothing like that. Awesome!

And now to top it off, my dad was looking at another score at the same time. A friend of a friend had part of his 5 acres cleared and wants the wood gone. Dad said there's a bunch of alder and birch, plus one big old growth fir. It's about 5-10 minutes away for both of us. If there's enough, I'd like to fill all the stacking room on my property and then start cutting for my girlfriend's parents.

Yep, been there and done that. Been years when I had nothing to cut and years when I couldn't cut it all. Staying ahead kind of helps even all that out, but it takes a while to get ahead.

They dumped it right where I wanted it. It looked like they had two trucks filled with rounds when I saw them today, but I wasn't 100% sure. I got one load. With it being free, delivered, and sort of a random event, I can't be anything but happy. My security camera got pics.

Wow !....doesn't get much better than that:cool:

Congrats on that.......

Sweet! Looks like they have even started the splitting process on some of the rounds for you.

Another example of what it sometimes takes; a simple stop and ask. Congratulations.

What luck! None of them burn wood.

Blacktail, once you start cutting for your gf parents you are pretty much bless by the Fire Gods to future son-in-law status. Great scores! I wish I had that kind of luck here.

"I love it when a plan comes together"

The maple ended up being just over a cord once I got it all put away.
I may have another hookup from a tree service that took down 7 big firs near my house. They said the rounds will most likely be available if I can time it right and talk to the right person.
